I wouldn't say I hate Larian, but I do hate reddit, the primary source of the EA feedback on their forums, and all the trannies they brought in to "consult" for the game's writing that ruined a lot of character storylines. Gale being a morally dubious manipulator and Wyll being a selfish, Aladdin-esque rogue LARPing as a hero for his own benefit were incredibly interesting. Lae'zel and Shadowheart both got toned way down too, Astarion is effectively the only companion that was unmolested, which is why he also is considered to have the best storyline among the companions if you set the waifufaggotry aside.

She was very standoffish in the EA. There were ways to get on her good side but you really had to work at it, and if you had Lae'zel in the party, the best you could hope for was keeping both of them at neutral favor because of how intense the squabbling would be. And it's not really that strange because you couldn't rescue her on the ship until EA Patch 5, meaning you could only recruit her on the beach (where she was mad at you for leaving her to die) later at the grove (if you declined to recruit her after her begrudging offer to work with you anyway) or after long resting when she tries to jump you with a knife while having a complete mental breakdown (since in the EA the tadpoles were actually a serious threat warping the minds of you and your party members - I won't get too deep into it but tl;dr "daisy" and the emperor were completely different characters, not that we knew who the Emperor was or that he existed at the time the EA was being released, we only know that after the fact due to the artbook.)
The easiest way to get Shadowheart to slob your knob was to start the game as a Sharran Cleric yourself.
Also, you'd think a Sharran wouldn't walk around proudly displaying the regalia of Shar on her armor, but lol

Can't say I know what Act 2 was supposed to be at all, but I feel that'd have been a mistake. Act 2, or the middle point, in stories is always supposed to be the down point. And considering Mizora is trapped in Act 2, I feel like that should have been the best point to show Wyll at his worst. Act 1 should have been a character establishing moment, aka. show both sides of him, mostly being heroic, sometimes acting shadier.

When I first played the EA, all I could think was that he didn't do ANYTHING right, ever. It's not even that he had an image as a hero that was being torn down when faced with reality, it's that he didn't even have that image to begin with.

So, I recently started Act 3 (first playthrough here) and uhhhhh should I leave the undead dragon for later? It's kinda like, the second or third quest I'm doing at all for this act and I'm wondering if I'm underleveled for this.

It wouldn't have been, because the EA established Wyll was on a quest to save Mizora, who he had feelings for but also obviously was the source of his powers. Mizora was imprisoned at Moonrise Towers, sealed by the cult of the Absolute. Wyll's character arc in act 2 would have involved him either breaking his contract by refusing to free her (at the expense of innocents but I don't want to go on a huge side tangent about that) or becoming his worst self by freeing her and gaining more power and her favor in exchange.
Act 2 was to be the point where Wyll's character arc is established for the rest of the game and he either grows negatively or positively from there; hence why you either see the best of him, or the worst of him. If you think that's a mistake, no offense but you have trash taste imo

You also had to drag out his shadiness in Act 1 of the EA. If you didn't pry too deeply you only saw him wig out near the very end when you are fighting goblins in the blighted village and the goblin camp.

Yeah, it was cool because you got to fight on the deck of the ship. Recruiting the intellect devourer was an important decision because it decided whether or not you fought just the imps or also the thralls along the way. You could also speak to the thralls, who all were under different delusions about where they were and what they were doing and why. Then later when your character wakes up on the beach and starts exploring the nautiloid's ruins, there are a bunch of enthralled fishermen tending to the Mindflayer to help it heal, scouring the wreckage for anything useful. You either had to break them out of their brainwashing, kill the mindflayer, or kill them; if you got to talk them after bringing them to their senses they reveal the mindflayer used its psychic powers to enthrall their boat's pilot to shipwreck them to bring them all under its sphere of influence.
