Okay, so solo Healing Factor is viable so far. It's just so goddamn fucking painful waiting out certain fights and getting littered with bullets. Feat selection is currently murky. I tagged two of the four exploration feats so far to fully benefit from having a high int and spread out stat spread since shotgunners don't need tagged combat skills.
I plan on using the Mk2 Combat Armor in the endgame if I can raise my skills high enough. 45 armor handling is necessary. With tagged armor and armored warfare, you can get there easily on a solo build.

Healing factor is actually pretty neat. I just have no idea what to choose for my next feats. I picked prowler purely to see if I could do that stealth section for the bonus loot and I fucking did it. Still planning on getting that sweet sweet shiny endgame armor. Doubleshot spamming is remarkably effective.

For what it's worth, rep is really easy to manage in BG2(Compared to BG1) via Slayer form as long as you don't get to 20 rep pre-Spellhold.

BG2 is a bit of a hassle to mod. I will say, don't get MegaMod. While the writing is technically good, in that the vocab is competent and tonally "fits," it really messes up the characterization of Mazzy, Viconia, and many others.
I like the Artisans Kitpack, especially the Mystran Paladin kit (Knight of the Mystic Fire). They have a fun playstyle built around enchanting their blades, dispelling and disrupting magic, and can cast some arcane spells in addition to the usual spells palis get. They're pretty weak at lower levels, but become a bit op later on. They don't get lay on hands or smite, but do get mirror image and iron skin to help with survivability.
There's a Djinn companion mod that adds a genie to your guest party slot. His quest takes you to some pretty interesting places.
There's "Athkatlan Grounds" if you want to add some new locations (with quests) to Athkatlan. Quality on this set of modules is variable. Some good, some mediocre. Nothing stands out as being too bad.
Some of the UI mods add a lot of nifty features, like quick loot.
Ascension is Gaider's mod for ToB. Good for a seconds playthrough. It rewrites a lot of the expansion and makes it more difficult.
There's Sword Coast Strategems, which makes the AI significantly more intellegent and more difficult.
Finally, a lot of people use Ryoko Kui's portraits because they're animefags, and it's pretty comprehensive (see pic related). There are plenty of other portrait packs out there. BG2's vanilla portraits are a bit of an acquired taste.

I'm going to drop a few complaints about WotR. I think it's a strong cRPG, but it's nowhere near my favorite. I think people put it in their number one spot because of the unparalleled build variety it offers, even if out of the hundreds of feats, there are only a handful of "correct" feat combinations on higher difficulties.
WotR's writing is really inconsistent. Some of it is very good (mostly dealing with companions and major characters), most of it is boring/forgettable, and some of it is downright shit, especially the "humor."
WotR tonally feels all over the place. There's some really edgy and dark stuff, and it can be very violent, with people exploding into gore, but then the next moment you're dealing with a cookie obsessed dragon, cartoonishly stupid and bafoonish cultists, or the play clowns. I understand that this kind of matches PF's tone, but Owlcat doesn't have to copy everything from Paizo. Like we don't need to have Drow getting orgasms from their unborn fetuses fighting and killing each other in the wound next to Summon Greater Tooth Fairy. Even Paizo corrected a lot of the off tone shit in later editions.
I think the aesthetics are boring as well. That's one thing that Paizo does pretty well. It may be fantasy, but it has its own style. Owlcat's style adheres much more closely to "medieval fantasy." You don't get the weird architecture or backdrops that you would in the classical cRPGs that WotR is trying to imitate. Like pic related is what source material Kenabres looks like. There's a bit more going on than just medieval city.
There's a real lack of enemy variety. It feels like you're killing the same shit the entire game. There also feels like there are too many trash encounters. You're probably supposed to just buff up and roll over them in RT, so it's probably a me issue.
Finally, playing the game without Buffbot is pure torture. The game expects you to be running 20+ buffs for every combat encounter past Act III. It's pretty tedious.

I think he should have dropped animations at the start. But I also think AoD would have been more playable as fully 2d vn/tactics hybrid with static 2d sprites. I've managed to finish the game, but I was filtered by needless attempts at clunky 3d.

>>
>>558954070
Not if you're on an evil path or an Aeon. If you're evil, you just kill them. If you're an Aeon, you just delete all the levity. Those paths actually have a very consistent tone. It's probably why Demon, Lich, Swarm, and Aeon are the most popular paths on here.
>>
>>
>>
>>558947407
You can literally kill the highest level enemies on the reapers cost the very second you land there without any exploits
The game is meant to be challenging on your first playthrough and it wouldnt surpise me if you are making multiple mistakes that makes it feel like you shouldnt be in the caves, even though it's only a level 12 area
If you are not familiar with the game and you didn't do any quests dont be suprised you are hitting a wall
Just level around driftwood and on the main "peninusula" you start on. You can do the bridge quest, partially explore the graveyard, do the quests in town, and that should be enough exp to do fine
Just remember to upgrade your martial users' weapons every level since it makes their damage scale exponentially despite the "small" increases
>>
>>558953501
>then the next moment you're dealing with a cookie obsessed dragon, cartoonishly stupid and bafoonish cultists, or the play clowns
The play clowns are awful, I have no idea why they're even in the game. But I think you're judging too much from Aivu and the cultists.
The dragon (Aivu) is only there if you play Azata. She isn't around on any other Mythic Path.Though it's still disappointing how they made Azata so comedic, they could have just left all of that for Trickster. They didn't give a comedic Evil Mythic, so I don't see why they wanted Good Mythics to have one
And assuming I remember correctly, most cultists aren't all that stupid or bafoonish, it's mostly just the ones connected to Nenio, who is sadly comedic relief. I might be misremembering though, I can't recall many situations where you actually spoke with cultists.
Personally I think the tone was mostly consistent in the main plot, at least once I threw Nenio out. There were points outside of main quests where it was really jarring though, especially with that joke music they play whenever something "funny" is supposed to happen.
>There's a real lack of enemy variety
Agreed. It makes sense that we're mostly fighting demons, but due to the inclusion of RTWP with its reliance on trash fights, you end up fighting the exact same fight without any variation dozens of times each act. They don't even utilise the maps most of the time, it's always just the same blobs in the same spots without any interesting position or tactics you could use.
Also limits build variety, since demons are immune to certain things, and you'll always need certain tools to counter them
>>
>>558954705
Aivu is probably one of the least offensive things about the Azata route. She at least reacts to fucked up stuff, gets angry, and can take things seriously. It's everything else, especially the Azata specific quests and kingdom management events, that's retarded and clashes hard with the tone of everything else. It still does not come close to the stupidity Nenio injects into the writing if she's around.
>>
>>558953501
The tonal shifts aren't really a problem for me because epic level adventures can get wacky. My issues are more from a design perspective.
The default difficulty settings are dogshit. If you're not an unfair player you're going to end up tweaking them to some degree. It was a genuine mistake for them to turn respecs off above normal and to not have full levelling below core. In a crpg, autolevel should just not be a thing by default above the lowest difficulty.
The pacing and sense of investment is generally very poor early game. It was a struggle just to care enough to get to drezen. It suffers from chronic prologueitis where it feels like you're just being strung along through a 30 hour tutorial.
It has mounts and build variety but it felt worse than kingmaker in every other way.
>>
>>558953501
>especially the "humor."
I found the humor consistently funny if you didn't that's on you as it's a subjective thing in the first place
>WotR tonally feels all over the place. There's some really edgy and dark stuff, and it can be very violent, with people exploding into gore, but then the next moment you're dealing with a cookie obsessed dragon-
I'm going to stop you right there. If you play azata dont come in the thread and complain about Aivu being silly, that is literally what you signed up for to a t. She is also meant to be a child so why be suprised that she is acting like one? If you dont like it buddy up with Memphistoles instead
>-cartoonishly stupid and bafoonish cultists, or the play clowns.
Evil is often stupid and banal, do you expect every cultist to be a brooding and serious stone-faced killer? There are plenty of greedy, selfish, cowardly, and unintentionally silly bad people out in the world. The game also makes a point of consistently brining up the fact that cultists aren't necessarily all iredeemable monsters. Some of them are dumb misguided young people that makes mistakes befitting of their station.
The dark parts of the world are pulpy in the first place anyway. It's literally a story about fighting demons and saving the world while being the chosen one with "awesome" special powers that everyone praises you for. WOTR is a unrepentant wish-fulfillment fantasy and it rarely if ever gets deep. If you are offended that the story isn't a dostojevskij novel and that the pathfinder setting is kinda dumb then thats on you for coming into this with the wrong expectation. The games trailers and promotional materiel are silly too you know?

Right. A lot of wotr's build variety is actually fake once you realize that a lot of the classes function the same and just use a different spellcasting stat, and when you realize that among the huge list of feats that looks cool at first most of them are shit and you don't take them. wotr's build variety is greatly exaggerated.
And yes to the buffing as well. It's extremely tedious to sit around casting buffs, and the worst part is those less-than-honest people who are always quick to say "lower the difficulty so you don't have to". This doesn't solve the problem, it just avoids it. owlcat has a implemented bad game design and just lowering the difficulty to avoid to doesn't address the complaint. I'm also not going to lower the difficulty since I like having all the achievements in games anyway. The good new son this aspect is that they seem to have realized this, and pre-buffing isn't really a thing in Rogue Trader. That game is significantly more fun from a gameplay perspective.
You also forgot to mention that simple stat inflation and adding a few immunities is not actually meaningfully increasing the difficulty of a videogame. Having a balor with 90 AC so you have to cast a spell that makes you hit him is not meaningfully more difficult or interesting than just having a balor with 30 ac that you don't have to cast a spell to hit. You're not learning anything or figuring anything out, you're just tediously adding one more spell to your buff rotation before the fight. Mistaking tedium for difficulty is another valid criticism of wotr.
This all being said, the music, characters, story, mythics, etc all make the game an excellent game that every crpg enjoyer should at least try, it's just also important to identify flaws and learn from them.

An ork would work fine. He would be like Nok Nok. It doesn't really matter that most people would not be familiar with orks and most people would not allow xenos near them, because we've already breached both of those with the Slyth in Winterscale's retinue. It's not even a matter of Yrliet kinda sorta blending in as a weird mutant, because we already have a rogue trader with an outright monstrous and obvious looking xenos with Winterscale's. It's just not true when people say we couldn't have an ork or a tau because they're too obviously xenos.
There are also orks that are pirates and mercenaries that have dealings with humans all the time. It wouldn't even be the first human to have an ork friend in the lore.
I want a non-human companion and it does not have to be romanceable. For gaming in general, mainstream normies will always go for the conventionally attractive human they can have sex with, but I honestly think that RT is niche enough (for warhammer fans) that we can instead have a wacky xenos with no romance and the average RT player would love it. I hope the statistics regarding normie's tastes don't overshadow what Owlcat could do with the dlc.
If it is a human, which leakers/dataminers have suggested it is, then I at the very least hope that it's someone from a totally different time period and they have totally foreign mannerisms, like pre-Imperium earth or pre-dark age expansion or something like that. Someone from the golden age or the like.
We are also short on heretic companions, so someone who fits that would be nice. They could do both of these at once by having the new companion be a human from the Horus Heresy who was loyal to Horus, but have him be a misguided pawn rather than an actual heretic, so he would speak positively of Horus as a man but not be like a cultist of chaos or whatever. That would be fun.
I hope they don't just give us Pasqal 2 or a random guardsman. Or worse, an important named character from Kreig or something like that.

I still can't fathom why Owlcat did that bullshit with Yrliet and Argenta?
Eldar and SoB were the icon waifus of the setting in the 40K community. Having a romance with one of those in a crpg would have been a dream come true. But they deny Argenta and make Yrliet's romance dogshit (barely evena romance desu) and also make her a dumbass and a bad Craftworld Eldar rep (Larry reps them better and he's a corsair kek)
Why did they have to rugpull on two big fronts? Yeah Cas and Kibellah and Jae (idk I think she's fine for what she's supposed to be) are cool, but not iconic for 40K fanbase. In terms of waifus this was THE big shot of making this happen and Owlcat just pissed on it for no reason.

I remember going the whole damn game just playing along with their antics because clearly, there's a motive to all of this, right? This will result in a great reward, or will lead in to a quest, or it will turn out they were spirits or even gods in disguise gauging me from my choices and reactions?
And then the play happens, it's a 2 minute conversation, and it's over. That's it, that's all they were. Holy fucking shit, why did they even add this. Why did they make these clowns a fucking recurring npc gang for 5 damn acts.

On the tonal issues thing, I don't mind the game having comedic relief from time to time. In fact, I don't even mind having a companion dedicated to comedic relief like Nenio (though the "jokes" get old really fast, mostly because it's always just the same pseudoscience joke and because there seems to be no actual punch line to any of it other than Nenio sucking at actual scientific method and no one calling it out until Jubilost). As long as the comedic relief moments are kept to appropriate moments, aka. when you're just chilling in towns with no immediate threat, I'm fine with having comedy, even the darkest scenarios need their levity to get attached to the world and characters. Shame the placement didn't fit that philosophy much of the time.
But my actual, more dire problem is how damn casual even the serious and horrifying moments can be. I always remember one very particular scene in Act 1. When you're storming through the Grey Garrison with Irabeth, and you reach the second floor, there's a brief cutscene in which one of her guardsmen and a cultist talk. They basically chat, right there in the middle of a battle, like they're at a fucking bar. And the cultist gets the guardsman to deflect because he just "Hey, come join dude, all the cool kids are on our side, we're totes gonna win!". And he literally goes "Here goes nothing!".
When you see that shit in the middle of what is supposed to be an untold catastrophe with thousands of dead and waging a fight for the potential end of the world, what the fuck kind of writing is that?

It's actually the opposite. I love my straight or nonromanceable bffs, and mostly shelve bisluts. Romantic dialog options with them make me uncomfortable and I'd rather not see them, much like men with Solomorne.

Nobody does this. Witches are quite good early game because they can spam hexes, making them superior to Wizards or Sorcerers who blow their wad in 2 encounters
They fall off dramatically when Mythic Abundant Casting becomes available, so from that point you're better off going into Loremaster to supplement their spell list.

because whenever devs try to do that they get attacked from a certain group of people.
Outer Wilds could clearly show racial, gender, and SA as a tool to prevent class solidarity by the bourgeois in the game but modern day Obsidian devs are a bunch of cowards so instead they avoid all these issues and make another generic world with no real bite to it and thankfully it will be forgotten as a mediocre 2 part game from people that still pretend that they are the same company that made F:NV

Yeah. Also, a lot of the humor is silly or childish. Silly doesn't really suit the tone of WotR. Like Fallout 1, Planescape, Baldur's Gate, and Dragon Age had humor, but none of it ever felt "silly," and it helped to humanize the characters and immerse you rather than feeling incongruous with the rest of the game.

>The reason why you keep being accused of samefagging
...is because it's an easy shitposting topic for shitposters - those that do it for the love of the game, and those that are genuinely mindbroken and see the namefag everywhere. The former can just say "good post, keep up the good work," and that's enough to rile up the latter. Samefagging in that context would be pretty nonsensical for the namefag, because why would you waste time and effort typing quality posts if you wanted to shit up the thread? But to the shitposter and the schizo, everything is permitted, including inventing personas. This one samefags. This one is obsessed with lesbians. That one is the anti-Cam poster. The fight is completely optional in the first place even on azata iirc

I know that it's obviously not canon but it makes no sense to go from being disgusted with even the thought of touching a human to holding your hand in the span of only a few months to then not getting intimate in any other way. You can't just go from no physical touch to some physical touch and say and nothing else happened after that.

The azata spellbook is actually pretty good in general regardless of what your character does
Elemental immunity, aoe exhaustion clearing, aoe negative level removal, spells that remove all negative mental effects targeting your team, teamwide hourlong boosts to your spell resistance and dcs, moral boosts to your stats and spells that let you restore every spellslot on your team twice per rest
It's definitely pretty crazy

Personally I think it is very fair and fun that I cant dispel buffs from my enemy even on a 20 despite being level 20 myself while enemies only need to roll a 30 to dispel all of my buffs despite them being cast by level 20 casters
Heighten doesnt work so apparently the only thing that might work is taking school mastery mythic abjuration or something.
Well apparently I could also buy owlcat's dlcs because apparently no item in the base game can raise my caster level above 20
I also cant seem to take spell specialisation either if that feat works as it doesnt even show up as an option on any character I looked for
So I will just have to take these turbobuffed bosses up my ass with no lube
I guess greater dispel only exists to steal all of my fucking buffs and fuck me over because it does literally nothing to the enemy no matter what I roll and it hasnt gotten better
Even a lowly fucking level 30 miniboss needs a 41 to dispel :)

>build variety is actually fake once you realize that a lot of the classes function the same and just use a different spellcasting stat
I noticed this long ago, since it started to feel silly to have 3-4 different flavors of what amounts to the standard DnD lineup creating fake variety.
On occasion there is some hidden feature that makes one of them work better for a specific concept but I just find it annoying and would just rather the specific special abilities be reworked as some kind of background trait for a class instead.

I've been spoiled here and there and one of the things I've been spoiled about is there being a secret ending
I didnt look it up in full, but I looked up a small part, what you need to do in act 1, and it turns out I'm locked out of it since I gave up the knife when dealing with the wardstone. The storyteller also strongly hinted at this being a problem in act 4 after examining the first crystal you obtain and asking to see the knife again.
I'm fairly certain I've found every midnight bolt and I did follow Nocticulas example and put a bolt in her ass, but I dont know if it will help me or anything
I actually have the crystal but eh, it's whatever. You are clearly not meant to find the secret ending on your first go. I've discovered a lot of things from paying attention, reading notes, exploring every area etc, but if the ending requires that you make a certain choice in act 1 then owlcat clearly doesnt expect you to find it until they all but tell you to keep the knife. It sucks that this is the case in a 200+ hour long game, but I'll accept my fate.

Was planning on playing one of the Pathfinder games and I wanted to make an unarmed character that uses divine magic, Any build ideas?
>>
>>559056528So this is just conjecture because the only thing I learnt from looking up the act 1 part of the secret ending was that you should keep the midnight bolts for something, Nocticula showed me what. And that you need the knife, which seems to be for understanding the connection between the wound/your powers and the crystals in full. The fact that there seems to be more to it than what Areelu explained is hinted at by the storyteller, I assume. The notes in Areelu's library, and the second part you can find in Nocticula's palace, talk about awakening a soul to its past life and its past memories. So that is quite telling of something, I am sure, exactly what though I dont know. I believe, without rereading them, that part 2 of Areelu's notes also talks about ascending to godhood, which I assume is Areelus ultimate goal. I can see the ending being complicated but surely I cant be that far off. I have talked in full with Areelu, always asking the relevant questions and she has praised my curiosity. I happened to attack Deskari in act 1 and she thanked me for his blood. And have done all of the research projects that dont give any rewards, which I assume is because completing them is the reward, since it unlocks something later. There was also a perception check on a random cliff in Baphomets prison that said that someone was hiding there. It annoyed me so much because I didnt find anything when looking around the area that I looked it up, and the guide told me to go back after freeing the inheritor. When I did I also found He- whats her names ghost who told me archpriests can call upon deity without their consent. I assume this is necessary? Or at least part of it
>>
>>559057548
You have some pretty good clues indeed and the priest is indeed necessary. But you still need a bunch more notablyhaving selected the good options when talking to areelu throughout the gameand the most bullshit probablymaking it to the final battle on a specific day

I need some tips to make it through Fallout 2, because I'm kind of struggling at the moment.
It seems like there's barely any way to make money, and every halfway decent weapon or armor costs way too much to be useful.
I left Vault city a little bit ago, made it past the rescue quest at vault 15, and made it to Shady Sands (but a city now). After I exhausted enough dialogue for my liking, I went west hoping to find Vault 13 since I played the previous game. Surprise surprise, it's not there, and I'm out of leads.
The game gave me a bunch of other locations, but no indication of which one should be my next target. I still don't have any armor, but at least I've got a desert eagle from the suicide cuck. sucks about whatever he blew up because the wizard of oz reference died trying to fix it, and I was already half way across the block by the time that happened.
It feels weird to say since the first game also kind of had a warped sense of balance when it comes to combat and dialogue, but I feel like this game is even worse in that aspect. It's just all dialogue, and combat usually doesn't turn out very well if you stumble across it. I made it through the rat cave well enough and killed the talking king, but then at vault 15, all I could do against the bad guys inside was instantly take 141 damage at level 5. (tried sneaking)
The writing and quest design feel kind of mixed besides. I'm starting to get a smell for Avelonne's writing style after finishing New Vegas, and Planescape Torment. Not sure what I'm misattributing to him, but every attempt at humor just makes me wish for a nuclear winter. And the writing isn't as deep or intriguing as I think it's trying to be.
It took kind of a while for Fallout 1 to catch me, so I'm being patient, but I'm about six hours in and still struggling to get a foothold. I get the idea of not feeling confident and comfortable in the wasteland, but I'm just trying to figure out what the game wants from me so I can meet it on it's level.

If you were going to make an isometric crpg trying to capture the feel and stamina management mechanics of Dark Souls would it work better as RTwP or Turn Based? I think I'm leaning towards RTwP, ala DA:O.
What would the possible companions be like?
Going by reoccurring character archetypes I guess they'd probably be;
>Friendly Knight
>Sinister Knight
>Lady Knight
>Sad Priestess
>'Friendly' Bandit

>Motherly Witch

I like RTWP for that sort of system just because it'll make it a lot more granular and allow for more strategy. (perhaps at the cost of needing a lot of pausing to do right.) Plus, a key part of stamina management is strategically not doing anything at an opportunity in order to regain stamina so you can use your actions to the fullest at the next chance. Skipping turns in a turn based game just sounds annoying.
What kinds of actions would you make take stamina, and what's the point of designing it like that?
Dark Souls uses stamina as a way to determine how much you're able to roll, how long you can string an attack chain, and how much you can block. If you overextend on any of these, you get punished.
I'm not too big a fan of the idea of dodging being in a game like that. I've never been a fan of the whole "real time, but also with timed button presses to not instantly lose" concept. If you choose when your characters will dodge and block from a menu at the start of a turn, or until you need to do something different in RTWP, then that begs the question of when is it more advantageous to avoid damage rather than deal your own. Pokemon is a master at fucking this aspect up. You use the move Protect. Now you took no damage, and neither did your opponent. Nothing changed. Factor in the fact that doing this also takes stamina and that's even more reason to not bother.
Going back to turn based, if you want to make the game like that, you could also pull something similar to bravely default (I haven't played this game, just heard the combat system described) where your character can take as many turns as their stamina allows with the expectation being that you'll "default" in order to build up "brave" turns to use when you need them.

You could base it off of ER to get much greater variety in playable classes/races/personalities.
>>
>>559066321
Doing it this way would also allow for some actual management aspects in how your characters block and dodge.
Let's say the enemy starts the windup for a move that you know will need to be blocked because it can't be easily dodged (maybe it has a higher saving throw than blocking). Set all of your characters to use the block action. Maybe if initiative is on your side, they can run out of range, or use a special ability. Blocking can have a chance to succeed based on whatever you decide for this system. Two of your characters have enough stamina to take some extra actions, so you can set them both to attack a couple times, or reposition slightly, or take a healing item, or even just do nothing else because they need to regain some more stamina.
I'm starting to really like this idea. Sounds like it could work well with both RTWP or Turn based. If I wasn't already in the middle of developing my own game, I'd feel very tempted to steal this idea.
Instead, I'll just let you steal these ones.

I let Camelia kill Horgus and even joined in on the slaughter of her servants in an otherwise good aligned playthrough. She literally died multiple times and went to the Abyss for me she can kill a couple of people as a treat if she is that loyal
>>
>>559065007
A rtwp system like pillars of eternity is obviously the way to go since it has animations and recovery times based on dex which feels very similar to stamina management.
If you make the stamina a mana-like system that recovers over time and can be used for special effects you can also make it turn-based that could be quite fun to play
My question is just why you want to make this a crpg when real-time action combat is its own thing.
>>
>>
>>559067706
Sounds like he's just trying to emulate the same sense of resource management that the stamina system does in those games (and some ideas for companions inspired by the world)
regardless, Dark Souls has always had a more slow and methodical style than other action games. So taking it a step further and making it a full on tactics RPG with pause or turns sounds like it could work.
Unless he decides to just implement things for the sake of doing what Dark Souls did, rather than because they would actually add to the game in a positive way.
That's probably the biggest issue I see in indies that don't break out into uber-popularity
