What distro and how did you install xrizer and WiVRn? Safe bet is to use Envision to build the profile and all components and then either grab repo or appimage version of WiVRn. Also use latest GE Proton instead of the RTSP fork, media playback works with GE if you have full ffmpeg (non-free) install.

Low T. Friend requests are like handshakes IMO. You don't really get to know people until after they randomly join off you a few times. yes, some people you add will turn out to not really mesh with you well and those friendships will fizzle out, but the ones you do get along with turn out to be great connections.

Every time it's a skill issue on his part. The game is a lot more generous than you think. You have nearly 40 degrees of freedom for your poses and a rather large box to fit your hands into. So large they overlap. Making mistakes because you're getting tired or trying to go fast is all part of the game though.

Most important thing is to look for damage to the lenses. If they have any scratches in them (eg: from someone that wears glasses) don't buy. Sticks and cable are the biggest point of wear so check those too. That should give you a pretty good indication of how badly treated it is. That said there are a lot of like-new ones where someone played once, got sick or realised how fat they are, and let it collect dust from there on out.

It's a more complex situation that than. It's changing something that already exists and whether I leave it in the current state or spend many hours fixing it, different groups of people are going to respond negatively. On some level I should just abandon it for my own sanity, but then it looks like I did it wrong intentionally. Deleting everything would be even worse. The outcome of every course of action is going to cause negativity towards me, so the only thing left to do is fix it as best as I can, even if no-one appreciates that. At least then if they are unhappy with me, they are unhappy at something I did intentionally.

Flatpak (I also spent too much time building from source and trying that), I don't know if I'll check out envision yet, I think we're 99% of the way there, WiVRn audio source/sinks are showing up in pipewire, just need to choose between native or flatpak steam and clean up my mess getting everything working

Buying the QPro in 2026 is potentially the most retarded way to burn money on a headset there is. It's not cheap enough to be worth it with how outdated it already is, much less how fragile the electronics are to sweat. Pico is >Pico so you're gambling on QC, as well as their tracking being noted as pretty bad from people who've used them, but it's a better choice between the two. I'd still say that despite my caveats about the GXR after using it for a while now, it's still the way to go if you're going to be buying a facetracking headset in 2026. Swapping the provided spacer for something with actual padding has made it pretty comfy without needing to go full bubba and hacking off the back to fit a new strap. Just need to stack some deals on it so it's not as an egregious price point, make friends with either a teacher, first responder, or vet so you can have them get you the discount and then throw on a sale code on top, then threaten to return it once it's arrived for another 10% off.

The mic stuff was fixed between VD and OS updates, and foveated streaming allows me to easily push 90FPS at native resolution without the chip throttling like it was before by turning down the bitrate heavily, without a drop in visual quality. The main problems I have at this point with it are that the tracking universe on it is still kinda wobbly which makes a unified tracking with lighthouse FBT behave strange at times, and the tracking it does of controllers in VD feels sticky, as the best way to describe it, plus some smaller things like the nag light that you can edit the OS to remove and VD audio getting delayed whenever SteamVR has a momentary hitch.
Sticker price on the XR is dumb shock value, but you can reasonably get it maybe 35% off when it's all said and done if you are willing to wait for a discount code which stacks with the discount and then yelling at the CS jeet once you've got it until they offer you the company policy 10% refund if you don't send it back.

Road to Yvhalon is a basic demo involving a short opening cutscene, a tutorial and a few monsters to fight in the first area. It's promising to be a decent single player RPG for VR. Cell shading is nice and the environments are cool to look around with the giant structures overhead. Combat has some swordplay and a monster catching system that changes the powers on your gauntlet. There are basic RPG stats for damage, health, stamina and magic and a checklist crafting system included based on resources found around the map and from mob drops. Text to speech voices were kinda funny, they even had a plaque at the end of the demo explaining how they're basically vocoloided with consent from the voice actors. Hopefully there's more to show for the game further down the line but it's awesome to see narrative VR games that aren't just walking simulators.

I believe it's partly a chicken an egg problem. Good PCVR titles don't get made because the market is too small, but because the PCVR gaming market is too small, sims and vrc are what drive all the sales in the PCVR space. Valve's plan to make the frame a VR-capable alternative to the deck with a decent/good flat gaming experience was a really good idea and it's a horrible shame that we'll never get to see it in action as personal computers are rapidly become a thing of the past.

I used to think that was the case, but I realized more recently that games are a purely social experience for most people. They don't care what they are playing, only who they are playing with. It's why immensely popular activities that persisted for months suddenly die; one influential person proposes doing something else and all their friends follow them leaving too few players to continue. It's why some players spent hundreds of hours playing a specific VR game but have never even tried anything since. In most cases they are still playing games with the same people, but the VR game they played back then was just one FotM for them in a long list of games before and after. Even the most persistent activities that have endured for years could potentially die out very quickly if specific people start doing something else and several others will follow them. You could multiply the number of VR games being released significantly and it wouldn't make any real difference unless it surpasses the threshold of such market saturation across all platforms that current fad happens to be in VR.

I've made so many friends over the years that I end up completely losing all contact with due to one of us leaving the space on the internet we shared and having no other contact method I stopped caring about that fear. It just happens.

A slew of really good big budget games would be a reason for normies to try VR to some extent... though I think you are also right that normies don't see the value. I still to this day have people in my circles who are bitter that alyx "costs a thousand dollars to play" and that VR "has no games," "requires a high end PC," "is really expensive," and the list goes on. Flat gamers hate so much when Steam recommends VR titles that eventually Valve reworked their store to disappear all the VR games unless players go out of their way to look for it. This year's Next Fest had no VR game demos? just a list of 50 curated demos? I liked the idea of the Frame a lot because it offered a new value add over other VR headsets in using it as a standalone device to play flat games, or as a standalone productivity device since it's running real linux. No headset on the market offers either of those things.
As you said, there are loads of (mostly smaller) games, quest headsets are 250 dollars brand new and come with a game featuring a popular normie IP, and there are lots of really cool standalone and PCVR games that don't require high end graphics, but people's perception of PCVR is still largely stuck in the 2010s. No major gaming creators talk about VR. VR games continue to be really hard to showcase on flat. Big games cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make and need to appeal to huge audiences to have a chance to recoup their costs. ~1.6% of the Steam market is not enough. On some level I think "the metaverse" fucked over everything. While Zucc made some really great hardware and grew the standalone VR market really fast, relatively speaking, it curtailed any organic growth and the walled garden approach was and is genuinely very harmful.

There were big name games. Alyx, Bamham, Thief, Metro, Alien to some extent. The one thing they have in common? Hundreds of people bitching about them being VR and asking for flat mode. No amount of money or marketing spent will force people to put on the goggles. 90% of gamers refuse to even try VR and many of those who do then refuse to play games if they require any kind of physical motion rather than KB+M or gamepad on couch. So simfags sitting in their expensive sim cockpit with massive brick on face or spastic kids willing to wave hands around for hours while throwing mom's credit card at P2W store are the only real market for VR.

Yeah that's actually really a good point. Buying FBT made me play VRC less because the process of playing VRC became too involved and technical problems became a constant pain in the ass. I think we are starting to see VR games branch into more kinds of games than shooters that need to be played standing up with lots of room, but it happened too slowly due to the small market size of VR. I have a VR platformer in my backlog that use a third person camera and a conventional controller I've been meaning to try.

Heavily disagree, if only because almost no one is going to drop heavy amounts of money before having a taste of VR, and as such, they largely knew what they were getting into and decided it was worth it. They may have eaten money returning or reselling things when they realized it wasn't worth the hassle, like the retarded VR treadmills, but you don't buy those if you're not willing to put on a headset. I do think the "activation energy" of putting on the headset and clearing a space if you can't dedicate a room to VR is a problem, especially since a lot of VR games are just "famous flat game X but in VR and probably janky".

If you want to turn up to pavlov: PLAY AGAINST BOTS FIRST. Once bots stop kicking your ass you are ready for multiplayer.
You also want to practice reloading with every gun (Do that against the bots), and practice aligning the sights and shooting quickly (also against said bots). The biggest hurdle is just learning how to point, shoot, and reload since it isn't just mouseclick.

When you move your head but the crosshair/red dot stays on what you're aiming at. Most obvious on in game holographics where you can still aim the red dot at stuff even if it's not centered in the sight itself, but you can also got magnified optics that has a similar effect. Just means you don't need perfect sight alignment which can help with inside-out headsets due to how close your rear hand is to the headset itself.

Pretty much this. I love doing SEA exploration, but 5AM on Sundays is kind of unreasonable for a lot of people on EST, especially ones that don't have my terrible sleeping schedule. The other host had been running NA exploration every other week before me because of IRL obligations and the such, so I stepped in for the other half later on. I originally tried for an earlier Tuesday time slot instead that didn't conflict. But people didn't want to log in that early, and kept getting confused between the two weeks having different times so I aligned it back to Monday. There are issues with Martini and PyPy being the same time, but it can't be helped. I always have fun with the Monday NA explorations, I don't see any problem here.
