we recently had a whole country test (Naplan) and the number of kids who just stood up and tried to walk out of the exam hall, and had to be reminded REPETEDLY that they had to ask for their test to be paused before they leave for the bathroom, and the kids saying they weren't going to the bathroom, just stretching their legs, and had to be told to go back to their fucking table, it was fucking madness.
its a 40 minute test, and so many kids couldn't sit that long.

back pre 2010 the kids were at least able to learn by their second term of highschool that teachers wouldn't let them just roam the school because they were bored in maths.
now kids will literally try and call their parents to get them to complain to the teacher in class to let their darling child wander.

if it weren't for the holidays i would have gone into the private sector 15 years ago.

primary teacher guy here, that is 100% due to how most primary schools are being run. Kids are just being passed, nobody is pushing them because they don't want the kids to get upset, any amount of pressure is called inappropriate with a heavy implication of sexual predator "vibes". It's all about making the job as easy as possible.

The culprit is the teacher who went from school straight into teaching with no life experience. They don't get that these skills matter in the real world, they have never lived in the real world

It's true you need to be patient and speak with a positive affect to teach effectively, but you also need to be able to lay down the law, act authoritatively, and set clear expectations, which she might feel uncomfortable doing. If she lets her students walk all over her the constant disruption would make the class fall behind, and the worst students would just coast through the whole school year without learning anything or putting effort into their assignments. Someone like Yellow-pegasus from Horse-show would be a better candidate: kind and calm, but capable of giving orders and standing her ground when necessary.
