>>43279377 Idk, they're not really comparable. It's kind of hard getting a read on Shimmer due to her limited screentime but, if anything, she's is probably closest in personality to Mrs. Cake. They're both stern and no-nonsense compared to Glimmer's gleeful malevolence and petty cruelty. One is mean incidentally, where the other is mean as an end. It's what makes Glimmer such a compelling character, imo, that and her whole cycle-of-abuse-victim-of-bullying-becomes-the-bully thing she has going on.
Shattered harmony has a lot of great moments, but disjointed plotlines that don't flow together
(Mare) Tamers had this disjointing problem until maybe around "Trixie gets fired", where episodes suddenly started having better scripts. There are now A and B plotlines that come together in the end of the episode. Episodes have stories that stand on their own, and also build on the broader "season" arc. I think he's been putting more effort into this aspect. You may find this more traditional TV style of script not as entertaining as the meandering wackyness of SU, but you have to agree it does show increased competency

It's not entirely clear what kind of emotional catharsis Cadance got from Luna, or why she specifically was the one who had to make the final choice. Like, I think the intention is supposed to be that Luna wanting love to continue existing despite her very low chance of ever being loved by celestia convinces cadance to forfeit the battle, and risk losing shining armor, except that as soon as Cadance accepts Luna's answer, Chrysalis is defeated instantly, and shining armor immediately goes back to Cadance. By the logic presented to us, she should still be very strong from the love Cadance fed her, so it doesn't really make sense to me. The vibes of the ending are very good but it's not very internally consistent, which bothers me. The Flawless plotline is really good, but it's not enough to save the whole episode for me.

Isn't it funny that the whole apocalypse happened in the end because Clean Sweep couldn't take "no" for an answer? Had he just accepted the wish and returned to EQG, then: 1) Vamp kid would not have caused the end of the world. 2) Big Mac's love triangle would have been resolved. 3) Kirin would have lived happily and redeemed himself in everyone's eyes. 4) By demonstrating self-sacrifice, restraint, and knowing thou place, Sweep could have taught a lesson to the other conflicted characters. But no, Clean Sweep just wanted Big Mac's dick, and now they are all stuck in limbo now.

I'm noticing a running theme of disability and a general dissatisfaction with one's own body. throughout the stallion episodes. Arinos, the Kirin Prince, Jinx, Care Package's Dad, Friendship, Clean Sweep, Apple Bottom and even Soarin and Future Soarin to some extent all touch on this in some way or another. I will have to re-watch the series with this in mind.

The seriousness in SU, the mare episodes, and DW is wonderfully juxtaposed by the comedy, it work because the seriousness comes off as outlandish as the humor. He needs to get over his personal problems and reconverge the stallion and mare episode.
