Nope. Play the game, YGO has a much smaller "on the play" winrate disparity than Magic does. It's only like 55% in YGO.

The only difference is that in YGO, some decks are specifically designed to win going second, while in Magic every deck wants to be on the play with almost zero exceptions.

I've very much noticed over the last couple of months that Wizards new business strategy is to introduce cards as collectors items. There are countless people in the local BST groups trying to sell garbage UB cards that noone wants, artificial scarcity special treatment mythics or otherwise. When looking for stores for the above question, I noticed that there are alot that focus on Asian TCGs like Pokemon, One Piece etc and mostly deal in sealed Magic, but Magic cannot hold a candle to the popularity of Asian TCGs.

Spiderman was the real break point, this is just people cementing their position. LotR was fine to the majority of consumers because most people don't care about the race of the character. They put effort into it and even though the art excluding the race swaps was shit the cards themselves were evocative of the setting.
Turtles on the other hand is too shallow. "A turtle in every pack" means that there's so little of the franchise to draw from it's all going to mush together. If I asked "What does Raphael do?" you wouldn't know which of the six I was talking about (seven if you count balders gate). This doesn't even count the "Raphs" either. This was the same problem as Spiderman. "What does Spiderman do?" There's 39 of them depending on how you count them, and they all draw from the same iconography. If you're not already a hardcore fan who can name all the references, it all looks like turtle soup.

The pizza depicted in the TMNT set art is some kind of eldritch entity. I do not know how they managed it.
The sloppy cheese. The greasy sludge. The non-euclidean toppings. WotC managed to make pizza not only unappealing, but genuinely shocking to all the senses at once. I can hear what the pizza of the TMNT UB universe sounds like, and it sounds like death. I can imagine what it smells like, and I don't want to be in the same room. The touch of it?
