third line isnt bad when you can flood the board with cheap tankets and target saturation + movement blocking. The arty is mean as well + BS4 mass militia shooting really does add up and hurt. Pair that with disciple masters in line troops there are actually a pain to shift on mass unless you have lots of pie plates. I am really keen to make a Militia list with lots of tankette, calvalry and arty spam as soon as my WA kickstarter arrives.
I 100% left the event knowing I need more pie plates in general as everyone arty was doing good work the whole time.

Reminds me of the Gorgon.
Also I realised making LI rules for a universal carrier would be pretty easy
>Move 10" Save 5+ CAF 0 Morale 4+ W 1
>Transport (1)
>Heavy Stubber or Flamer.
>+20 points to add 4x gun carriers instead of additional troop upgrades for Tercios and Velentarii.+5 to equip a HQ with 1x gun carrier.
It would work better if it was restricted to a stripped back scout infantry formation with very limited optional units but I'm keeping it simple

I thought it was cringe too, my friends are BL normgroids and I regularly face Abbadon, Sevatar, and Kharn. I'll get kino like a centurion or praetor stripping a wound off one of them and lasting a little longer in a challenge, even win sometimes. Hello Brothers!
>>
>>
>>
The Librarians of the Emperor's Children have few remaining functions as scribes. Other than making occasional notes of ''amusing'' and ''witty'' deaths they have witnessed. Their main duty is to provide psychic support to the physical struggles of their fellow Legionaries.''
''There is also the immutable fact that the Emperor Himself was a psyker of unprecedented power, although the scale of His psychic might was such that He was beyond the perils of the Empyrean, and that He Himself had no doubt deliberately made the Thousand Sons what they were, at least in inception. Furthermore, and with greater discretion, Alpharius of the Alpha Legion, Fulgrim of the Emperor's Children and the Night Haunter- Curze himself was a potent psychic oracle by some accounts- all made active use of psykers within the ranks of their Legions, though perhaps with more reservation and less fanfare. These Primarchs had all supported a proposed scheme of structured training within the Space Marine Legions that would allow psychically talented Legionaries to employ their powers safely and in a directed and regimented manner-an initiative that would become known as the Librarius Project during the mid years of the Great Crusade.''
''They spread out around Fulgrim, each weighing the enormity of what they were doing against the potential for wonder and fresh sensation. That they had managed to subdue a primarch was miracle enough, but to drive out a creature of the warp… Was such a thing even possible Lucius looked from face to face, understanding that no one gathered around the body of Fulgrim could answer that question. The Emperor’s Children had been a Legion reticent in employing Librarians. The genetic quirk that allowed a psyker to wield the power of the warp came about as a result of a genetic mutation, a flaw. And nothing that could be considered a flaw would be permitted within the ranks of Fulgrim’s Legion.''

What armour marks do alpha legion tend to use? I love their colour scheme and it's pretty quick to do with contrast paint over silver.
(I don't say that to be lazy, I do get fairly autistic over fine details in mini painting, just I'm also a procrastinator so doing the main two colours fast is a bonus)
>>
>>
Every Legion used every mark of power armour.
Emperor's Children had Librarians.
Death Guard had jump pack assault troopers and jetbikes.
White Scars had Dreadnoughts and heavy tanks.

I can see how veterans would prefer old style armour which they had fought in most of their life, beakie armour was still fairly rare until mid heresy and very specialized.
The middle of the road would be the beloved mkIV.
>>
>>
>>97650904
Even some of the old SM 40k codexes mentioned that some veterans preferred Mk II because of its higher degree of mobility.Though some level of wanting to stick with what they're used to is probably also a factor.
It's never been as simple as a line of progressive improvement. Each armour pattern had its own strengths and weaknesses to some degree. And most have interchangeable parts as well.
Mostly fresh recruits wearing the newest armour would be a natural result of logistics. It takes less time to equip recently trained inductii with the new armour and send them to the front lines, than it does to have veterans pull back from the front lines for re-supply and re-arming.
>>
>>97650904
It's logistically more expedient for shipments of new gear to go to new recruits than go and ship them to the field, have units hand out all of their old gear, go through that gear and make sure it's all in working order and complete (no missing parts or modifications that change how the suits work), then hand those suits to new guys. You also don't need to train all the vets with the new gear as training for the new gear would be part of the training the new recruits go through.

>And most have interchangeable parts as well.
I've heard the complete opposite of this.
>>
>>97650940
>>97650904
>Mk2 has higher degree of mobility
Compared to Mk3 maybe.
Mk3 was a stop gap armor, and it was specifically deigned for zone mortalis conflicts to have thicker plates especially around the chest.
If anything the best power armor of the HH was Mk4, Mk6 was specifically designed for recon and rapid deployment, it was technologically more advanced then Mk4 was but Mk4 was the shit that most everyone wanted.
>>
>>97650558
I'm working on Mechanicum for HH and Legio Vulpa titans for AT. I've no time (or money lol) for another project.
Perhaps someday.
>>97650592
Fuck off immediately and never blight this threshold again bitch
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97650983
>Compared to Mk3 maybe.
According to 7e armour cards, with the MkIV (and subsequent suits) switching to solid plate construction with flexible joints (taken from MkIII), there was a slight decrease in mobility over the fully flexible MkII. Not much, but enough to note it in the fluff.
>Mk3 was a stop gap armor
To what? Even in M41 it's still the best armoured of the marks. It's a specialist suit not designed as standard issue.
>Mk6 was specifically designed
As the next step, taking as much of the advancements from MkIV as possible and combining them with the dual circuitry for easier field repairs with simpler parts. Effectively fixing the issues that the MkIV had with using so much advanced tech that it was harder to repair in the field.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
So if the Heresy never happened would the Legions have just ended up being equipped with a mix of MkVI and MkVII (Or perhaps I should say MkV and MkVI since MkV is a post-heresy designation) within a few decades? Actually, would the MkVII been different if it wasn't rushed into service because of the Heresy or would the end result have been the same?
>>
>>97651201
If there was no heresy then legions would have been equipped with mk4 or whatever later true iterations had been made on it. There's a reason it's called maximus, it's the peak of mass produced astartes power armor. Everything that came after was an adaptation to wartime conditions and a lower quality environment, not qn improvement.

anon...
>>
>>97651201
MkVI was the rushed version while the project was completed on Terra as the MkVII. Despite the difference in appearance and the helmet design, the two suits are nigh identical, which is why they both continued to serve till M41. I can imagine MkVII with some tweaks would've been the next standard suit. Probably with a clean breastplate (the aquila was a sort of flex on traitors at the time) and maybe with a different helmet design (the Sarum inspired one felt like something the put together in a hurry, though MkVIII also has a similar helmet design, so maybe it just was what they were going for anyway?) It's a fun thought experiment.
I've also heard theories terminator suits would've been more common, maybe serving as the heavy assault suit while MkV(II) would've been the standard issue suit for everyone else.
>>
>>97651238
They were already working on the next iteration of power armour before the Heresy, since while the mk4 has all the bells and whistles, as the mk5 showed, the technology was not readily available across the legions and caused problems with logistics.
>>

>>

>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97651271
Its really just my headcanon for what would have happened if armour development continued organically but I like the idea of there being a "standard" armour, a "lighter" armour, and a "heavier" armour. An alt-MkVII then would be the standard armour, the MkVI or a variant thereof would be the lighter armour and a common issue amongst the more mobility focused legions, and maybe an alt-MkVIII incorporating more elements of the MkIII for the "heavier" armour.

>>

I’m not sure if this has come up before, but I’d like some help with figuring out parts of the lore for Titan Legios, the Mechanicum, and the Questoris Knight Houses. Lemme explain.
I’m currently hammering out a 30k/40k homebrew faction (TL;DR: the temporally displaced last few colonies of the United Nations that are basically the T’au, but humans, not ontologically evil, have no caste system, not racist as shit, and not governed by theocractic fascists). I’ve already gone ahead and paired them with a bunch of Blackshields from the III, IV, VIII, XV, XVII, and XX legions (again, long story shorter: these Blackshields saw what was happening with the Heresy and decided that, since nobody on either side wanted to swallow their pride and actually talk things out like fucking adults, the Blackshields would leave the Imperium and take as many civilians/stranded Auxila with them as possible, join with my homebrew faction, and pivot to civic duty instead of warfare), but I also want to add a Mechanicum faction (with attendant Titan Legio and Questoris house) to their side for extra flavor.
My questions are thus:
—Are there lore examples of Mechanicum factions basically becoming Blackshields? What about Titan Legios and Questoris Houses?
—Am I overreaching by adding said Mechanicum faction?
As to why I’m asking here instead of the homebrew general…well, I’d get a straighter answer by asking here rather than there.

You can't possibly be so naive as to believe that. They had years at the head of a legion, even if you believed the line that they only came to it 25 years before the heresy, that's 25 years in which to simply clone themselves endlessly. Why wouldn't they? Who was going to stop them? There could be millions of the damn things out there. We know primarchs can be cloned, because it openly happens to at least two of them.
>>
>>97652951
iirc the forgeworld that supported the thousand sons basically went blackshield during the heresy and didn't really support a side. There are also examples of blackshield titan legios and knight houses - legio tritonis and their home forgeworld declared independence after the heresy started and fought both loyalists and traitors, and parts of house aethergn just became indiscriminant raiders, to name a few.
For many mechanicum forge worlds integration into the imperium only happened a few centuries ago at most and many were thousands of years old, so it stands to reason they might just decide to return to operating independently and/or take advantage of the chaos to improve their position by expanding their influence.

>Why wouldn't they?
Nobody is more paranoid than a schemer. Would they dare trust a clone? Would they dare trust him with the task of engaging Dorn, especially? One could easily argue no. While Primarchs have been cloned as far as I know none of them have cloned themself.
Also from a meta narrative perspective it's a great source of angst and potential character development for a twin to become an only child.

Spoils of War and The Flesh is Weak stack, right? SoW removes Vanguard/Line and TFiW says you cannot benefit from it. TFiW makes you automata and immune to Pinned so you can loot without consequences. SoW doesn't forbid scoring points and TFiW changes scoring to based on the amount of bodies in the squad instead of vanguard/line. I don't see why they wouldn't work together.
I just have an idea of a renegade space force that invades Space Hulks to strip copper pipes out of them.

What armour marks are these fellows wearing? Are they kosher for HH?
>>
>>97655681
They're basically unholy mix-and-match suits, just far more obvious and less blinged-up than 40k CSM. But the shape of those separate kneepads on the greaves with them is only something I've seen on Chaos Legionnaires specifically, maybe someone can correct me.
>Are they kosher
At the very least remove all MkVII features. Would be best for Blackshields, but five in a box is pretty fucking rough.

unknown backpack probably VI

mkVI boots
top right
mkIII backpack
CSM pauldrons
CSM/mkVII or mkVI arms
implied mkVII chest (concealed power cabling, no MkX boob armour)
right thigh MkII or MkIII (old-style with the flanged rings)
right greave implied MkIII "kneeless", which may be intended to be MkX when Chaos Primaris eventually hit, though it (again) lacks a knee or the characteristic flange or the saboton over the boot
right foot MkIII (compare various DG/MkIII suits over the years)
centre
CSM/Anvillus backpack
mkVII helm
CSM pauldrons
mkVII chest
CSM/MkVI/VII arms
MkIII booties
MkIII left leg
MkVI right leg
lower right
MkVI or MKVII (interchangeable in 40k terms, may even be MkVIII) backpack
one weirdly small CSM pauldron (possibly MkX stealth originally)

MkIII legs
MkVI boots

MkIII pack
weird small pauldron

of all of them he's probably the easiest to reuse; depending on the back of his legs looking like MkIII, he would just be in MkIII, might make a nice NL squad leader or SH guy if you paint that skull gold and give him some normal pauldrons/arms

How are the rules for allies in HH?
>wanted to get into HH some time ago, couldn't decide between Raven Guard (nobody around here plays that legion and I like them) and Solar Auxilia (nobody around here plays them at all) since I didn't want to start two full armies
>since I couldn't decide at the time and some other expenses came up I shelved playing the game for a time
>now that I have some cash again I thought of allies
Basically a mostly Solar Auxilia force and a small force of Raven Guard which I think would fit in with their post massacre fluff. Just a few snipers, jump pack guys, vigilator and maybe some terminators with lightning claws.
>>
>>97655916
there's no getting in each other's rides, joining units of a different faction is (almost always) a -1 penalty to Ld/in/wp/cl, faction-specific stuff is very clear (and can prevent you using psychic powers and cybertheurgy on allies as before)
other than that it's much less restrictive, basically soup as long as your allies are no more than 50% of your points and have the right detachments (ie anything that doesn't have a slot in the Allied Detachment needs a Command choice to unlock its own section)
>>
>>97655916
They're not bad. My only complaint is that I feel like I can't get it quite the way I want list wise. I also cannot get a straight answer on whether or not unique characters can be taken in an allied detachment using special assignment. At my LGS, it seems to be so.

Supposedly. I cannot find any details on solo releases in the GW webstore or anything but Auspex Tactics claimed it was the case, up to and including pricing. In fives does seems in-line with nu-40k handling specialist infantry, being like an alternative to Chosen that infiltrates. Anyway, comparing to Heresy doing 20-man boxes, perhaps it may be best to wait and see if we get either nu-MkIV or MkV to mash up with MkVI. Some people already do this with CSM Legionnaires in 40k. Up to you.
>>97655916
There is no longer an allies matrix, but funny interactions through the likes of different Rites of War and Warlord traits from the previous edition aren't a thing anymore, so no 'loyalist' AL meatshields or RG Liberation Force. Nearly everyone can get inherent access to automata in some manner while marines and knights can get certain Solar Auxilia units in without needing allies proper. SA themselves can replace a reaction with a unique one if allied into a certain legion.
You can technically have as many allies as you like, the only real consistency you gotta keep straight outside of the new FOC is the Loyalist/Traitor dichotomy as usual, and a Lord of War detachment may be from any faction if they make up less than 25% of your points budget. So you could have a Knight, or a Thunderhawk or Baneblade without much rhyme or reason.

Pondering which variant of the WE scheme I should do on the second fellblade for my EA 30k armoured company. It will still be blue on white but I'm not sure if I'm going to make him company commander so I'm going to add brass accents or if I'm going to let the guy with the binoculars be just some guy. The first fellblade is just the FW page scheme.

Personally i like the Felblade more then the falchion, but you have to play as a bully when you use the fellblade, you wanna get up in their guts and be aggressive so you can get your demo canon in range along with your main gun.
The problem i have with the falchion is that some times it will just miss, its really hard to miss a vehicle target with the felblade.

No they are fine on the felblade because its a super heavy so it always counts as standing still, so they do 4 damage a pop, the thing is, you are gonna wanna be getting in close anyway with the felblade so the shorter range on the Las destoyers is a non issue.
The las destroyers and the las canon arrays do the same damage its just a matter of Do you want S10 at a shorter range with fewer shots and more damage per shot? or S9 at a larger range with more shots but fewer damage?

>>
>>
>>97657141
Or to put it another way:
Two laser destroyer rapiers are MUCH superior at killing vehicles (of all sorts) to a quad lascannon predator. However the quad lascannon predator is more efficient into 4W targets (like automata), has a range advantage (allowing it to safely engage the laser rapiers) and is much more durable. It will also do reliable damage (if not realistically lethal) to any non AV14 vehicles.
10 man lascannon HSS are still incredible all rounders, even if they do very little to AV14.
>>
>>97657141
>Lighter vehicles like rhinos and predators absolutely exist
Yes, and at BS4 you need 6 of those "valid" antitank to kill a single Rhino. Stationary. Move and you need ~12
If you need a dozen of something to kill a Rhino, then you should use something different to kill said Rhino.
Like a Magna laser, which has the added benefit of also killing Land Raiders.

well actually thinking about it a falchion might be better for Warlord titans given their massive void shields.
the Falchions neutron wave cannon is 2 dice, 4+ to hit, AP-3 with accurate and shock pulse. Shock pulse wipes off 2 layers of void shield compared with 1.
The Fellblade's accelerator cannon is 2 dice, 4+ to hit, AP -3 with armourbane that forces a reroll on any successful saves.
>>
>>97657171
>Yes, and at BS4 you need 6 of those "valid" antitank to kill a single Rhino. Stationary.
Okay? Thats a realistic number of lascannon shots to throw at things.
>>97657171
>Like a Magna laser, which has the added benefit of also killing Land Raiders.
At the cost of being shorter range (which is bad because it still doesent want to move) and being nowhere near as effective into softer targets, because that terminator or veteran doesent care if youre damage 6 or 12 or 2.
Vindicator laser destroyers are, rightly, much better at blowing up tanks than predator annihilators. They are however near worthless into everything else, while a predator can credibly deal with light vehicles (or even chip in on damage on heavier ones) while also being able to go into more varied targets without being worthless.

I think I play on reasonably dense terrain tables (at least I hope so, I set up the terrain that last game >>97656592), but I have often found my laser destroyers out of range (especially turn 1). Having nothing longer than 36" range really does hurt, especially going into people with things like autocannons or lascannons.
The point at which you dont/cant have firing lanes longer than 36" feels like the point at which you probably have enough terrain to make melee the only real option. (or barrage weapons, I guess). Because you probably have enough terrain to make 36" not really realistic as a full sightline either.

>>
>>97658710
If you just need someone to jump onto points for points? No.
Veteran tacticals are capable of "brawling", but theyre fundamentally not going to be much different to regular tacticals in the face of true elites, and theyre not as efficient at standing in your backfield getting VP.
The advantage of tactical vets is (if you have the slots) that theyre a lot more durable for the model count/pts, allowing you to contest hot objectives (and in a battle of small arms theyre rather nice).

It is my opinion, but I'm not sure being able to view your enemy's spawn is a healthy thing.
Cover is not enough; you need actual line-of-sight blockers, and fact is you guys can see from one edge all the way to the other. One or two lanes is workable, but you got multiple directions, and exposing the deployment zones of all things.
It may not look like, but that *is* planet Bowling Ball. You can play on straight city streets but you could add a collapsed building here and there to block city-spanning sight lanes.
>>
>>
>>97658710
Yes, the BS 5 really makes things like combi-weapons or even some special or heavy weapons very worthwhile. Lets them have an actual impact, rather than only stand on an objective with their dick in their hand praying nothing notices them like tactical squads have to do.
>>
>>
>>97658858
Thats kind of what im getting at. Maybe I dont understand the game enough to know why its wrong, but my understanding of cover is that its meant to provide a means to hide while moving. So the issue isnt "you can see far down certain lanes" (a necessity for ranged weapons to be useful) but "you cannot avoid those lanes".
If you can play around the sightlines of the enemy on the approach then you have enough cover. But that could be naive and maybe theres meant to be a lot more to it than that.
>>
>>97658829
Just terrain pieces that entirely block LOS. Capped ranges are retarded and unrealistic, weapon ranges in HH are already comically short compared to real lifeYes I understand it's needed to make positioning mean something on a 4'x 6' board, but still.
>>
>>
>>97658904
>Elite melee terminator stats

They're a scoring unit that rapes anything trying to move them off the objective at close range/melee.
They can even take a conversion beamer for long range AP 3. Easily one of the best terminator units in the game.
>>
>>97658829
>>97658873
>my understanding of cover is that its meant to provide a means to hide while moving.
I would expand on this then, because I think moving with some measure of protection is one thing (cover), but actually blocking line of sight is different. It doesn't even need to give cover.
Blocking LoS can force the enemy to move or deploy in a certain way, as to cover that literal blind spot. They can provide avenues of approach.
Cover can provide mobility, but also a hardened position to fight from, which is the opposite of moving. Unsure if it got shrimplified, but we had cover that was impassable to vehicles but traversable to infantry, and vice-versa.
Cover and LoS blockers, they aren't necessarily equivalent.
>>
>>97658747
>>97658831
I see, I think I genuinely might aim for them next then. My basic “fantasy” when building my force is having troops suicide rush into battle quick to tie up my opponent’s positioning while heavier fire power gets into position in the mean time.

I heard there's two ways of playing them: many use them as a Terminator unit that doesn't need a separate vulnerable Line troop tailing behind them to do the actual scoring. They can kill and score on their own.
Theoretically, they also might be used as Glass Cannon terminators. That is, terminators that can harm things that are usually too tough for termies to fight. Like T8 Dreads or Saturnines. All of this from their overlooked Unique trait: +1 to wound vs [Astartes].
They changed Chaplain's Hatred into +1 to wound in melee, then they simply removed it from Chaplains. So, Lerneans are like WS5 Termies with a shadow chaplain among them?

Crimson Paladins are more durable and do come with deep strike build in. You can have a squad of them deep strike on/near an objective in the opponent's backline and be a huge nuisance. But with power swords they're never gonna compete with other elite terminators unsupported, in that case all crimson paladins can do is hold out until help arrives.

Evil cyber theurgy can be used on those Corrupt units. Idk if blackshields are getting Corrupt type that way, I only knew Corrupt from that Prime benefit. Some dude gave his Headhunters BS6 with that.
Idk if that also allows an evil Lacrymarta to heal people.
