My friend wants to trade me his ungraded, but excellent condition Gaea's Cradle for one of my unopened base set pokèmon packs and an unopened fossil pokèmon pack. Should i weigh the packs and give him the lighter one or let him choose between the base set packs? Is it even a good trade?
I still play edh, he does not. I bought a badlands off of him a few years ago.
Pic unrelated, swords to plowshares i got autographed like a month ago.

Yeah he's a pretty busted and overpushed "goes in every red deck with noncreature spells" card. Terror of the Peaks without the tribal requirement and stapled on ETB value just because. The power level of this slop UB set is almost inspiring me to go to prerelease and buy a play box, but I will remain strong and ignore these urges.

I play Licia and she's pretty fun. I was actually considering making a proxy of her with Carmilla from the Castlevania show, though I haven't found too much great art. Malenia fits very well from a visual perspective, but I've never played Elden Ring so I can't say from a lore perspective.

>he does his shit at FIVE mana
Actually he doesn't. If you drop him for 5 mana raw he does nothing. You need to have extra mana for something else or a free spell set up to make him bolt something. Anon is correct this is just Terror of the Peaks for spells instead of creatures. Probably still strong in the right deck
>>
>>
>>98158020
no he does that shit at his 5 mana
at 5 mana he presents the threat, even if you get rid of him you still get the better flashback
and you dont need to wait for any upkeeps or end steps to get his value
card is 100% the best card in the entire set
>>
>>

>>
>>
>>
>>98158057
>card is 100% the best card in the entire set
I guarantee there is going to be more and stronger busted powercrept bullshit in this set, probably Wakanda associated characters like Shuri, or Hulkling and Wiccan.
>>
>>98158156
youre going to be sorely disappointed when your "griselbrand" hits you for 6 life, and gets you two cards
griselbrand is 7 life 7 cards 7 power liflink unconditional instant speed effect
modok is 21 life for 7 cards, and conditional +1+1 counters for its 2/2 base stats lifelink for an effect you can only use on your turn
that shit is not going to be ran in MOST black decks let alone all of them
>>98158164
unless your deck consists of only creatures Thor will get you value, it effects all your mana rocks, it works with your chaos warp and tibalts trickery, it just does shit
>>
>>98158129
I just don't see that Thor having that much value in every red deck. In combo heavy ones sure but not in something creature heavy for one at least. That Modok is just pay life draw on and on while filling up your grave. It doesn't even have the usual only as a sorcery limit. It's a hell of a hand cycling deck digging tool.
>>
>>98158180
you dont see the mana value in a guy that turns all of your noncreatures into potential removal and the added bonus of being able to hit the face?
I have like 6 red decks and he is taking a slot in every single one because that effect is so generically useful
>my deflecting swat bolts your face btw
modok is not a card you can slot into any black deck, some that have reanimator or lifegain strategies sure but not just any black deck
thor goes in all red decks period

>>
>>98158175
Yes, I already said he's Griselbrand for babies. Modok's not as good because nothing ever will be again, but drawing seven+ cards essentially for free depending on how risky you're feeling is still huge.

I was going to weigh the packs and trade the lower weight base set pack+ fossil pack which according to what i saw is about 1300 and my lgs has a cradle in the case for 1600. They are not shadowless or first edition packs, just a base set unlimited and a fossil unlimited pack. Also, i know he intends on opening the packs.
I would like a gaeas cradle, and i bought my secondary fun car for less than 1600. I would rather spend any cash on car stuff than magic.

I think it's Thor being a five cost that is getting me. It feels like a lot of mana for only the first flashback like effect. I think of my own experiences with things like Caldera Pyremaw or Sentinel Tower and see how without some kind of infinite mana or a setup to drop several cheap spells in one shot, I feel Thor could end up similarly. But I could also just not be seeing the lines.

Yeah, it was either try to find something similar to Rot Goddess mode or go for her physical Blade of Miquella side with the lifelink and such
>>98158004
Lorewise she's a peerless demigod warrior who suffers from a crippling disease (she's blind and one arm + both legs are prosthetics) however she's turned the curse into a life drain of sorts so whenever she hits you in her boss fight she heals herself

>>98158340
thing about this comparison is that it isnt at all as versatile or as useful as that single line of thors effect

edh especially lower brackets are about making yourself a fun person to play with
if I have to play against the rule of law guy I'd rather call up 3 players who arent doing that and keep him as the 7th or 8th back up and when he shows up play outside his rule of law deck bracket
like he said his table is ALREADY telling him it isnt cool, but yeah encourage eachother to be THAT guy you bucket crabs
>>
>>

>>
>>
>>98158922
At what point does "fun" just become "Let me do whatever I want or Im banishing you from the table."
Magic is a GAME. Somebody has to WIN. By your logic Bracket 2 cannot have;
>RoLs (they're unfun and slow the game down)
>Counterspells (they're unfun and slow the game down)
>Removal (stop getting rid of my stuff I can't play now dude!)
>Boardwipes (they slow the game down)
I play Bracket 2 and Bracket 3. I even have Bracket 1 meme-brewers at my store. It doesn't mean you bend over and spread your asshole and let people fuck you because god forbid you try to impede your opponent in a fucking GAME.
If my group was such thin-skinned bitches yeah I probably wouldn't play EDH with them either.

Killed something every single turn how could I beat it? Well I didn't cry and tell my friend to stop playing his deck, I started running enchantment removal to beat deal with it. If your enchantments are a problem your friends will find a way to deal with them because they want to win.

Think I lost my group because they couldn't help themselves
One guy built cool and fun decks that, while strong, ultimately centered around "I'm going to do some things."
Other guy kept losing, got mad, just built fragile combo decks and played on his switch if we countered it once.
Other guy just promised he wouldn't escalate until he kept buying moxes and cradles, what have you. Also only built combo decks. Got mad if we focused him down and complained every single time we took out the KOS commander.
The combo decks have traded wins for about a month and a half and now no-one wants to play.
Sucks that I lost my playgroup but I couldn't even compete against a literal car on the table and didn't have enough removal to handle two combo decks at once. Aside from just building my own combo deck, the fuck can one guy do? Even "oops, all counterspells!" doesn't pack enough interaction.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>98159291
Not entirely wrong. One guy was cool, but the other built their decks solely with the intent of winning. Which I can't phrase better?
Like, we're all very competitive and want to win. But instead of building a deck that was a "Insert commander name here" deck, it was just "I'm going to infinite before you and just want the W". Don't know how to better describe it.
Couldn't bear it that I'd shuffle up just to play three lands and then get combo'd out with an "I'm sorry guys." My man, don't apologize. You knew what you were doing when you made the deck. Just own it.

Two questions, was this in retaliation for them playing similar cards or strategies that would lock down the table? If so then you’re justified in playing those cards. And are your opponents always trans and/or autistic?

Had a weird fight in my group the other day
>Friend 1 getting bullied by friend 2 and 3, is at 9 life.
>Flips out at friend 1 for like multiple minutes calling him a faggot and etc for attacking him
>My turn
>In an effort to calm everyone down I decide not to swing on him even though I had lethal, I attack another player instead but leave myself open
>Friend 1 turn is next, he plays shared animosity and swings me with 8 1/1 tokens to killed me
>Then immediately scoops which screws over friend 3 as he is the only target of friend 2
>I get mad and tell him the only reason I left him alive was because he was being a brat and bitching about how he was being targeted
>Other friends mad he scooped because it messed up the rest of the game
>Everyone mad
>Host says this is the last game and we should all go home
>Haven't spoken to any of them in 3 days
Was I in the wrong? Maybe I'm too compassionate for not wanting to kick him while he was down

I detest your ubslop, but I will answer anyways. Anytime a permanent says its name, it's refering to itself, just itself, no other cards. The only time in mtg you will see something refer to a cards name as such, it with say "...a card named "[card name]"...".
For instance, if this was refering to any Mysterio and not just itself, it would be worded as "Exile those tokens when a permanent named "Mysterio, Master of Illusion" leaves the battlefield."

It's just retarded stuff like that. I will point out when my stuff is threatening, I will call out if I have threats on board that need to be dealt with. Romoval is great, counterspells are great, boardwipes are great.
My issue with floodgates is that it's even when there's no reason to be. It impedes all three opponents equally when only one of them is an actual issue.

Focus on making a deck that consistently plays cards you want to play in order to enable you to do things you want to do. It's easier and more fun to devote time to optimizing a deck when it's actually one you really enjoy playing.
When your deck fails, think about why it failed and tweak accordingly. It's also way easier (and cheaper) to build successful decks when you have a way to play-test online (I use EDHplay) before putting the cards together IRL.

>Game 1, bracket 4, playing superfriends combo Kilo, i play an early Smothering tithe and planeswalkers and get targeted, player A playing mono green selvala kills us all with triumph of the hordes after interaction is wasted on me, whatever it happens
>Game 2, bracket 4, playing Kilo again, player A is playing Vivi and is going off but gets stopped, I flip the 1 mana Tamiyo into a planeswalker early and ult her, drawing half my deck and dropping a Chain Veil combo to infinitely bolt everyone with Ugin and win
>Game 3, bracket 4, I step up to Stella Lee because player A is playing Vivi again and both of us go off and get stopped, game is super long and player B playing Tivit grinds us out and plays a protected Time Sieve for the win
>Game 4, bracket 3, playing Oloro, player C is put in a kingmaking situation where he can kill me or player A playing Meren and he chooses to kill Meren cus he was spamming Fleshbag Marauders all game and I clean up and win with my army of Indestructible horses lmao
>Game 5, bracket 3, playing Bumbleflower, player A apparently desperately wants another win after being targeted every game and pulls out an overtuned Ureni deck and is the archenemy for the entire game. Players B and C dont have interaction so I have to use removal on player A every single turn the whole game while playing out almlst nothing myself. Eventually I stall out the game enough for player C to get put in a kingmaking situation again between me and player A and he kills player A again so I swing in with flying creatures at a low health player C for the win

Probably in the works, although i also believe its going to take some time. One has to imagine someone in corporate doesn't want the Marvel set releasing so close to the DC set. Add to that that we know for a fact thanks to the infinity stones that we have at least four more Marvel sets in the works, and i'd say its going to be a few years from now. I really want a full Batman set honestly, his slice of DC has enough content for a full set, easily.Unlike Spider-man.

Maro is a major Marvelfag, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see it. DC is probably their backburner property (assuming they even got the rights) and by the time they get there we'll have seen Spider-Man and another set or two of Marvel be complete flops in the players eyes (but not in Hasbro's eyes since they only care about store allocation sales not what the stores actually sell)

I don't have to imagine, I saw hordes of FF fags here lamenting their waifus getting reduced to signpost uncommons and bad mono color commander deck rares just last year. This place hates marvel enough where I doubt I will see the same reaction to this set but I know there are gonna be some diehard /co/fags in meltdown mode after it happens to their favorite scrimblo.

Asgardian characters that aren't Thor or Loki are also notably absent, so characters like Odin and Hela might also be in a magic set. Same for Olympian characters other than Hercules and Ares, and gods from other pantheons like Khonshu.

I have brewed 5 red decks, which ahould I build?
>All modern frame psuedotribal
>Make dudes for people to punch each other with while punching them
>Force everyone to attack, especially me
>Hope to ult early the durdle with tiny cantrip artifacts til I draw my threats
>Cast little spells that make artifact tokens, then big spells that really benefit from being copied
I'm looked for fun, mostly, don't care about optimized winning, cause I'm replacing my current red deck that wins too fast.
>>
>>
>>
>>98159993
Mica seems the most fun to me.
I am skeptical you'll be able to get to Daretti's ult early. People are going to constantly target it for attacks and/or removal, and since you're in Red there's not much you can do about it.

>>98160058
I've given up on playing most Planeswalker because in my playgroup, as soon as one hits the field, my opponents will send all of their possible attacks at my Planeswalkers. They'd rather kill my Planeswalkers than attack other players who are clearly more of a threat.
>>
>>98160093
I mean, yeah? That's good threat assesment, if I have to choose between sending 5 damage at a Planeswalker and 5 damage to someone's face, I'd kill the Planeswalker (unless an opponent is at 5 life of course). Same way I always choose sending damage at creatures over sending damage at people's face if the option is there. Life is just life, removing pesky permanents with good abilities is just logical.
>>
>>
>>98160103
Why did you think that? Marvel may not be as big as it was at its peak with Endgame, but it still makes billions of dollars in movies, TV shows, games, and merch every year, the characters are still iconic. And since this is 4chan, more people here are likely to have actually read some comics than your average joe.
>>
>>98160101
>>98160093
I wish my playgroup was this logical. I'm the only one who cares about attacking Planeswalkers unless they're within Ult range. Whenever I try to convince people to attack Planeswalkers they're all "but I don't want to make an enemy out of this guy", "all he does is draw an extra card each turn" or "that guy has the most life so I'm attacking him".

Speaking of adaptations, I believe that every character with a card revealed so far has appeared in several adaptations, right? Be it movies, cartoons, or games. So the deep cuts aren't really that deep.
>>
>>
>>98160159
I don't think the Roxxon Berserkers ever appeared outside of comics, but they're not legendary, just goons.
But if you don't count Lego games with hundreds of characters or shitty mobile games with hundreds of characters, I don't think that Hellcat or Iron Lad have ever been adapted.

The Micronauts appear in the artwork of Worlds Within Worlds. The Micronauts never appeared in any media outside of comics due to legal issues with Hasbro (Micronauts are based ona forgotten toyline), but since Magic is done by Hasbro that wasn't a problem.

>It impedes all three opponents equally when only one of them is an actual issue.
Assuming we're not all a bunch of crybabies and actually want to play the game: that's actually pretty good. Your goal is to beat all three opponents eventually, not just the one who's ahead right at that moment. There's no reason to choose not to hinder your other opponents alongside the one who's ahead when you have that option.
>>

Takesies Backsies is required for casual commander at least to some extent. The fact of the matter is most players do not pass priority after every spell they play to save time so rewinding is required when someone rushes through game actions. I should not have to openly telegraph that I have interaction in order to get a valid window to respond.
Also most players do not read the text of every card they play to save time. If I have to ask the verbatim text of every card that is played, that stalls the game even longer especially when every modern card has 2 paragraphs on it. So when a card does not behave exactly like it is vaguely described or noone knows what the fuck is happening because youre autistic and wont talk, taksies backsies should always be allowed, especially when no hidden info is revealed. When I was newer, someone played Dragon Tempest just saying "it gives flying stuff haste" so I had assumed it gave all creatures static haste like a Fervor so I was gonna blow it up right before combat but it doesnt work like that so I lost because of his fucking vagueness.
I actually started mentioning to my playgroup the idea that takebacks shouldnt be allowed when you actually read your cards completely and they dismissed it as I think most groups would so this is just what you have to deal with.

I fully believe in modeling how other players should take their turn. I always ask after big plays if there is any response and I usually announce main phase, moving to combat and 2nd main phase. Sure, throughout playing magic you're always going to run into awkward rewind moments (especially if it's a new pod) but you should try to mitigate it as much as possible.
Firm believer that if someone asks what a card does then you read it aloud word for word, and if they ask to see it, you fork it over. Magic is not a speed running game, it's a calculated strategy game (unless you play red lul.) There is no reason people should be blowing through steps of the game or not clarifying their actions because that is an integral part of the game.
This is the same for paying attention to board state. I'd rather someone ask what everyone has for the 5th time in a turn than play something and then do a taksie baksie and I ensure my group knows that and I model it myself.
I have never taken back something I played because of information I forgot or didn't ask for. I will verbally say either A) "Oh yeah, I forgot) or B) "Oh shit, I didn't know that was there or did that" and then reap the consequences of the bad play. I believe a card laid is a card played and it's on me to ensure I'm playing optimally.
Of course this always depends on how seasoned your playgroup is too, newbies get a pass for at least a few games before I start bearing down on playthrough and rules.
The rules are important and abiding by them makes you a better player, allowing players to constantly skirt them is a disservice to the table and makes everyone there a worse player.

My bracket 3 Jenara deck has a suprisingly high win rate because people underestimate her. They think she is an old janky voltrons commander, which she is, but I don't run her as one. Pillowfort/combo and she is just a flying blocker most of the time. Rarely do I pump her up and swing for wins, but it happens with infinite mana.

No, you don't. Your argument is "hindering everyone at once is bad because I think it's unfun to hinder those who are behind". It holds literally no more weight than anyone claiming anything else they don't like is unfun, since I've already explained how it's a good strategy if you actually want to win.
>>
>>98164228
>"your argument is [my argument]"
Correct
>"which could apply to anything else people label as unfun!"
Incorrect, it literally only applies to this one thing, as outlined in my argument.
>"But it's good"
Never said it wasn't.
>"so it's okay!"
It's unfun, but sure it's okay.
>>
>>98164292
Sorry, to correct, myself here, you aren't claiming it's the same reason everyone uses, you're saying it's the same level of reasoning everyone uses, which you don't make any attempt to prove by comparison at all, so it can be summarily dismissed as "no, I'm right".
>>
>>
>>98164228
Here, I'll do it for you.
>removal
Targetted, usually targetting something reasonable that's either hindering you or giving too much value to them. This will only affect a behind player if they are trying to hinder other players.
>boardwipes
Everyone is reset to the same state, so unless you've missed tons of land drops and had mana dorks, you're more than likely fine with this. The only player behind here is the one with an empty hand, which really is always the case.
>counterspells
See:removal
>combat pillowfort effects
Might affect a couple players more than others depending on deck strategy, but doesn't really affect players that are behind since more often than not they aren't attacking.
>straight up casting taxes
Everyone has to pay or they can't play, behind players very much included. If anything it affects them more cause they likely have less mana to pay the tax with.
>>
>>
...you autistic retards can just ask them to hand you the card? I don't like how people just assume I know what cards do or they don't read it word for word, I just ask them to let me read it. Usually that means I'm the only person at that table who knows how it works exactly.
