I'm severely autistic and am obsessed with scat... I get dames to wet themselves when I tell them about my preferences over the phone. I find my fetish to be a part of my charisma, a je ne sais quoi if you may. Do you have any scat pinku recs for yours truly?

>how big are movies usually
Have you never downloaded one?
Anyway, it depends on the runtime, obviously, and on the bitrate. Runtime * bitrate = filesize.
And bitrate in turn depends on the resolution, as well on the rate of compression.
You can get webrips of 2-hour films in 720p that are no more than 500MB. But that usually translates to a really terrible quality.
If you want at least 1080p and not too many compression artifacts, expect more than 2 GB.

Le dossier 51 (1978) has proven once again that Michel Deville is unjustly overlooked. It was quite engaging to have a movie about surveillance shot subjectively from the perspective of the spies. The fluidity was present most of the time, and so were the creative cuts that I consider a Deville trademark.
It took a bit for it to grab me but once it did I didn't want to be let go.

mosaicanons, I need your help (bear with me because I'm dumb with this stuff).
I pasted the script in windows notepad, renamed it to mosaic.sh as shown in the link, and saved it in the movie folder.

what am I doing wrong?

Wtf, I didn't know Spike Lee had it in him, picrel was actually gigakino. I only saw Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X before this, and while I enjoyed it it was kinda standard late 80s-90s fare stylistically, but this was his usual aesthetic mixed with actual poetiscism.

Manon des sources (and the previous Jean de Florette) is kino. Never read the source material but it has a lot of naturalism undertones and that's always a plus to me. okay, I think I've made some tiny progress.
I already had ffmpeg installed from yesterday, but when I checked with ffmpeg -version from cmd it showed the essentials build instead of the full build, which is odd....
I managed to get it working using git bash. however, the clips aren't being combined even though COMBINECLIPS and CREATEMOSAIC are set to true in the script. it generated 9 webm files, but only input1, 5, 2, 8, and 9 work, while input3, 4, 6, and 7 won't open.
for each webm, the terminal shows:
>Error opening input: No such file or directory
>Error opening input file filename.mkv
>Error opening input files: No such file or directory.”
when I delete the webms and run it again, I get the same errors, along with:
>Error opening input file lista.txt
>Error opening input file listb.txt
>Error opening input file input1.webm
>Error opening input file input10.webm
there's only the movie and the script in the folder
>>
>>219667523
>No such file or directory
Means you got the filename wrong, or have the file in the wrong directory.
>Error opening input file *.txt
Means the text file either doesn't exist or is corrupted.
>Error opening input file *.webm
Same, but for the video file. No surprise this would appear after you delete the video files.
>>
>>
>>219667673
>>219667778
the movie and the script are in the same folder on my desktop. I drag the script into git bash like shown in the video.
the script was originally a .txt file that I renamed to mosaic.sh
the inputFilename in the script is the same as the movie.
it gave me 5 working webms out of 9 on the first try, then it stopped working

Also, the French film industry is fairly self-sufficient. The government actually invests funds into art. The reason why you don't hear much about it in the Anglosphere is because the majority of contemporary French cinema consists of lowbrow comedies and crime films.

Try putting the video and the script in the same folder. Then try again.
The script might have trouble keeping the two differerent (source/work) folders in order.
>>
>>219668473
what do you mean? they're already in the same folder. if I open git bash from inside the folder, it starts working again, but I still get some webms working and others not (first it was 5 out of 9, now it's 7 out of 9). I don't get why it's not making the mosaic even though combining is enabled.
now I'm also getting these errors on top of the others:

How do people on Letterboxd have 6000+ movies watched? I'm only at 1500 and by now I have a feel for what movies I like and there aren't any movies anymore that I get excited to watch. Sure there are a lot of highly rated movies I've yet to see but they are about subjects that I am not really interested in. If I force myself to sit through some highly rated classics I could get to 2000 but after that I will be watching movies knowing full well they are going to be so so and that feels like a waste of time when there are so many other things I could be doing.
>>
>>219669184
I tried another video but nothing changed. is it possible the error comes from me just dragging the script into git bash instead of actually running proper commands? the issue is I don't know how to do that.
and I still don’t know your steps (what you change in the script and how you execute it). maybe that's where I'm messing up
>>
>>
>>219669615
>the issue is I don't know how to do that.
Right click on the opened folder, select "Open in Terminal" in the dropdown menu. Then enter the scripts full name (including the dot and extension), then a blank space, then the argument you want to give it, i.e. probably the video file's name (again, including the dot and extension). Then press enter.

There are a few explanations. Some shortsmaxxed. Some are true "cinephiles" which just means a dimwitted person who will passively watch anything that looks pretty and artful. Some women watch 1000s of romcoms in the background while doing their nails or talking on the phone. Some of course are just lying and haven't seen those films.

>right clicking in the folder gives me "open with visual studio"
Why would someone like you, who doesn't know how to work a console, have Visual Studio installed?
Anyway, if you can't find it in the quick-menu, open it manually. On your keyboard, press the Windows key (between Alt and Ctrl) and R at the same time. Then enter "cmd" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. This will open the console terminal, but you'll need to navigate to the folder your files are in before executing the script. You can do that with the "cd" command.
"cd #FOLDERNAME#" will take you to the subfolder with that name. "cd.." will take you back. If you need to see a list of all subfolders use "dir". In case you need to change to a different drive, for some reason, say drive D, enter "D:".
Once you're in the right folder, enter what I described in the last post (script-name followed by video-name).

I've hit 4000 films watched. I've been on Letterboxd since 2015, back when it wasn't taken over by filmtwt yet. On average I've logged about 230 films a year. 2600 total. The rest are films I remembered seeing and added as watched.
If you really love cinema, it just feels like a fun hobby, not a job. There are times when you don't feel like watching anything at all, and others where you end up watching a film or two a day for a month straight. I know a guy who goes to festivals regularly and has seen around 12500 films (including 2500 shorts).

When you open the console manually, you usually start in your "home" directory. You need to navigate from there to your target folder step by step.
Usually, the "home" directory, nowadays, is C:\Users\#NAME#.
And you mentioned that your target folder is on the desktop. That means you enter, separately:
cd Desktop
cd #FOLDERNAME#
And once you're in there, you can just refer to the files by their names, without the path. That's the reason why you go there in the first place.

got it, thanks. so I'm supposed to put the script name and the movie name, right?
like this:
>mosaic.sh filename.mkv
I've tried both with and without quotes, but it still opens the script as a text file
>>219672796
it's taking way too long for something that's supposed to be easy to do, but I don’t want to give up. it would all be much easier with a video tutorial lol
>>
>>219673424
>it still opens the script as a text file
That's because it's still a Linux shell file, and you're still using Windows. Which might explain why you got all those errors earlier, if you opened it in a third party tool (gitbash?). You need a *.bat file if you want to execute commands from the Windows console directly. And a Linux operating system if you want to natively execute a *.sh file.

I asked grok to convert it to a ps1 file
https://basedbin.fly.dev/p/FQ7IJP.txt

>>219673918
>How to use it:
>Copy the code below into a new file named, for example: CreateVideoMosaic.ps1
>Save it in the same folder as your input video and ffmpeg.exe
>Right-click Run with PowerShell (or run it from PowerShell terminal with .\CreateVideoMosaic.ps1)
I havent touched windows in a decade so try at your own risk

wait a second, was the ffmpeg executable supposed to be in the same folder as the movie and the script form the start, or do I only need to move it there for this? because I followed the installation video and ffmpeg.exe is in the ffmpeg folder on my C drive
>>
>>
>>219674686
Since the errors you got before don't say that the exe wasn't found, I'd say that you did everything right in terms of >>219674867 and don't need the exe file in the same folder.

so this kind of worked. now I get all 9 webm files. the quality is pretty low tho (the movie itself is only about 2gb) and they're all different sizes, from 1221 kb down to 66 kb.
also, there's now a "mosaic_3x3.webm" file (which didn't show up before) but it doesn’t work.

I'm not using the script at all. I can, in theory, try to debug what the other anon got from the AI, but doing it remotely is pretty much impossible. I had a quick look through both the *.ps1 and *.bat files, and from a scripting side, it looks pretty much okay (most of it is just setting variables and then calling the executable anyway). But I'm not an expert on ffmpg, so I can't really verify whether the giant "filter" variable is in the correct format that ffmpg expects.
It's also possible that something about the codec gets fucked in the output file. You could try experimenting with the output type. For example, you could try manually changing the last line
>-y "mosaic_3x3.$fileType"
to something like
>-y "mosaic_3x3.webm".
That way you'd force it to convert the result to a specific format. At least from how I think ffmpg operates.
In the same manner you can also try editing the bitrate variables throughout the code to get a better quality, though that will of course mean a bigger filesize.

Other filetypes don't work either? *.mp4, *.mpg, *.avi, *.flv?
Other than that, I can really only see one of the variables not being set properly. You could test this by removing some of the lines and see what the script spits out without them. The -metadata line is pretty useless, for example and can be taken out. And I think it should work without the -c:v and -b:v commands as well, and just default to some standard codec and bitrate.
Running it without the -filter line should be interesting, if that's indeed where the problem lies. You'll get a huge video though, since it'll take the rescaling out.

I haven't tried yet
>The -metadata line is pretty useless, for example and can be taken out
done. nothing changed.
>And I think it should work without the -c:v and -b:v commands as well
I took out -c:v and -b:v from the three lines they were on, but the script won't launch
>Running it without the -filter line should be interesting, if that's indeed where the problem lies
you mean the whole line, -filter_complex $filter? I tried that, but I'm still getting the same result: 9 separate webms and a mosaic_3x3.webm that won't play
>>
>>
>>219679212
What if you replace the whole last command (the bottom block beginning with ffmpeg) with nothing but the line
>ffmpeg -i input1.webm -y "mosaic_3x3.$fileType"
possibly also replacing "$filetype" with a target format?
That doesn't give you what you want, but it'll show if you can at least convert one of your nine videos to an output video.
>>
>>219676585
Looks goofy with the aspect ratio. Reading the script each video is a fixed aspect ratio? How adjust per file without editing the script file?

with just that line, mosaic_3x3.webm actually plays, but it's only 22 kb and it's the same scene as input1.webm (66 kb, the opening credits lol)

>it's the same scene as input1.webm
Yes, that's the expected outcome. The next things you can try it to add in the other argument lines, but keep the input file at just the one instead of all nine (basically removing all the other -i stuff). Maybe the problem is somewhere in the video files or in the way they're added as input.

Right now, not really. I agree that it'd probably be easier, but it's too late over here and I'm a bit too tired to set the stuff up. And in the end, I'd have to do the same thing: Add in or remove lines to see at which point it breaks.
>>
>>219681577
are you just testing it? because I don't really see the purpose of a mosaic made of random shots with no compositional sense
