You can recycle pretty much everything that you can pick up, even clutter. I'm not entirely sure how it determines what you get back from recycling (tankard gave me iron ore, steel weapons give steel ingots) but I suppose it's done via keywords. There's a fall back option for items that don't get recognized so you're always getting at least something. You recycle directly from your inventory so you might want to restrict using it when you're near a forge or smelter if you care about that.

Smelter (or any crafting station) uses recipes which require patching if you use anything that's not vanilla. As far as I know this process can't be automated. You'd probably need to inject / generate recipes based on keywords during runtime which to my knowledge nobody has done yet.

I'm giving gourmet and apothecary another chance. Yeeted Hunterborn for good because it's too cumbersome and realistically I won't use it that much. Simple Hunting Overhaul it is. I couldn't get Simple Hunterborn to play nice on my setup but YMMV. Atm I'm very much inclined to just go back to CACO, the central patch hub is just too good.

Tried Last Seed as well and I can see it being cool for something like Shattered Skyrim since you need to actually boil water in order to safely drink it but in regular Skyrim I don't think it matters because fire and cooking stations are everywhere so it just means one click extra in the cooking menu.

Also while I wouldn't recommend The Island for its intended purpose as either an alternate start or an additional quest mid-playthrough it's kinda good at testing anything that relates to food, needs and hunting in a vacuum. Last Seed makes it actually harder to survive because you need to make clean water yourself and there's no cooking pots availabe to use unless you make them yourself.

In defense of nexus this has been well documented for the last 5 years so nobody can act surprised when it happens to them. They changed their policy so that after a given period of time you lose the option of deleting your mod. This is to prevent transwomen from holding the entire website hostage by deleting a popular dependency mod whenever they get emotional. Imagine if popular mods like racemenu, cbbe, USSEP, MCM Helper, or SkyUI was removed from nexus.
