getting tickets for this march basho was even more brutal this time compared to last year. i'm blaming dan. going to post some photos i took during last year's osaka basho
>>255277 He needs to invent the shiko henka, at the tachiai he steps slightly to one side then leans over to that side and quickly lifts his other leg straight up, dodging his competitor as he flys past and out of the ring
>>255304 Onosato would injure anyone in front of him for 5 seconds before gassing out and failing every drug test within 50 yards of him without even taking them.
>>255304 >how would one of these guys do as an NFL offensive lineman? They’d probably have an easier time transferring their skills to something like nose tackle, but in general, it probably wouldn’t take long to get them acclimated to the sport. Sumo wrestlers simply don’t have the conditioning to play football though. They’d be exhausted after a single set of downs.
The heaviest player in the NFL ever was an OT for the Lions about 20 years ago who was 6’6” and 410lbs, Aaron Gibson. (He also ran a 5.3 40 yard dash) The Bucs signed some guy who weighed around 450lbs but the guy never played and is currently trying to cut weight to get back on the field.
The heaviest player currently is the Ravens’ guard Daniel Faalele at 380lbs. but he’s also 6’8”.
>>255301 buysumotickets? idk why jsa fucked him over, they just hate gaijins. sucks especially hard because you dont find out if you got one until later. can't just get a ticket the normal way afterwards
>>255344 Just in front of an audience. One bash, Osaka 18 I think day 3-5ish, he just decided to try it and found he could spontaneously do it. He's a really inspiring person.
>>255346 I assume you typed the year wrong given he debuted in 22. That's amazing though, some people are just built different. Fukuzaki/Fujitensei also has some good shiko, hopefully he can fill the void Kotoeiho leaves
>>255297 Horse is actually now claiming to have "won a championship as yokozuna" because he won that staged bullshit FujiTV exhibition? If fake non-basho tournaments count then why didn't he claim to have won a championship after the London event and put the controversy to bed way back then? KWABAMYOTY
>>255384 His weight is up 1kg from his previous weigh in two months ago. His diet is way too much meat, he needs to start eating more retarded carbs like rice and pasta if he wants to get his weight up to Gagamaru levels
>>255396 The Japanese don’t like making rules because then that means that everyone has to be embarrassed when someone breaks the rules. So they all just agree without saying as much that they’re not going to color outside the lines.
Bringing up an elbow in your tachiai is fine, Takayasu does it all the time. Smashing it your opponent’s face is frowned upon because it suggests that you’re unsure of your own brand of sumo.
>>255402 >it suggests that you’re unsure of your own brand of sumo. this gets more weight than Western viewers appreciate. even rikishi who don’t fight for their preferred grip are viewed with suspicion. (i.e. they’ve no preference for migiyotsu or hidariyotsu)
>>255409 It's easier to shout at a rikishi when he gets too close to the line rather than having to over regulate everything and take a hard yes/no judgement every time it happens.
>>255402 Sumo has plenty of rules. Not as overregulated as MMA, but there's ten different fouls that result in disqualification, most of which because they don't want sumo wrestlers literally killing each other.
Tried amateur sumo the other day and had trouble managing my breathing during sparring. I feel like I held my breath the whole time.
I have a little experience in bjj and wrestling and can manage my breathing there... But sumo was so fast and over so quickly it feels like you don't even get a chance to breathe. Am I doing it wrong?
Should I be taking short sharp breaths? Shouting "oss" when pushing?
>>255444 >Former office worker known for having a great sense of humour and is a decent Makuchi rikishi on top of it It's easy to see why desu. #1 is 100% Dan, but #2 could be any one of Takayasu, Enho, Kotozakura, or even Asanoyama because of his comeback story.
>>255396 Sumo is a "treat me how you wish to be treated" sport, so if you're doing stupid shit like elbowing motherfuckers to the face, you're going to have motherfuckers elbowing you to the face, which means you're going to get injured and sent down the ranks as a result of missing out on basho in order to heal.
Its been almost a whole week without a new Chris video and I'm starting to get worried about the guy. He never goes this long without making new content except during bashoes.
>>255529 You say that like it's a bad thing, maybe we will get back to some semblance of being able to talk about shit. RIP Sumo Historian Anon, you will be missed. Reminder he only left when people started shitting all over.
>>255529 The anti-Danners all ragequit /sumo/ after Dan became the sports overwhelmingly dominate figure. They enjoyed shit talking him when he was "only" putting up 11 wins every basho, but now that he is taking home all the cups and is rewriting the record books in a way that even Hakuho was unable to all the h8ers can't say shit anymore, so they all just gave up.
>>255532 Moreso just got tired of all the cock polishing you do. The only rikishi I come close to hating is Stand, and at least the people who were fans of him would banter about it and also not spam every single fucking thread every three fucking posts You know this, I know you do, and you're just being an obnoxious faggot because either you're genuinely homosexual and Dan is your unicorn, or you're deliberately trying to make a good thread and community on this godforsaken website worse
>>255546 Yeah sure, now explain how going from a slow off basho thread with light hearted shitting compares to a large increase in post per day of mostly bait, arguments about nothing, and dan posting. >it's just 4chan Get fucked, the occasional collections of people able to discuss something they all actively enjoy is something that occurs less and less on this site over the years because of mentalities like that.
>>255540 I don't see him defending at the net but in a scramble at the back he definitely has the explosive speed.
>>255550 You must be looking at different threads than the rest of us, there is no malicious spamming, trolling, or derailing, it's as you said, light hearted shitposting and poking fun.
You take shit too seriously and frankly are more annoying than someone posting a silly danpost.
>>255532 Hoshoryu zensho'd the most recent tournament, while Danya still can't past "okay ozeki" scores even when he yushos, so Danya is still a step below Hoshoryu.
>>255564 In practice, because sumo wrestlers have made chanko every single day since 1909, what you're really getting with proper chanko is the sum total of all that knowledge passed down about what exact proportions of ingredients work best together. Any attempt at making it by a formal recipe will end up underwhelming.
>>255578 >what you're really getting with proper chanko is the sum total of all that knowledge passed down about what exact proportions of ingredients work best together God I wish I had that clip of Koga microwaving chicken nuggets.
>>255585 Futagoyama branched out recently, and I don't think he brought any middle-aged chanko masters with him. Koga and friends are the founding generation of the stable and haven't had anyone to learn from.
Dan confirmed as the most popular sumo wrestler, Yoshinofuji comes in 2nd place. Forgettable and unimpressive yokozuna HorseSHITryu in last place KWABAMBOTY
>>255592 okay so you spent thousands of dollars on a fat guys silk loincloth whatever happens has happened, so they got it back from them due to a falling out. What the fuck do they do with it now? Get someone else to wear it? Sell it on ebay to the danfag? Just seems like a lose lose situation why take it back just for spite?
I know using the shikona of previous rikishi of note without permission is verboten but I really want someone dominant to change their shikona to Raiden at some point. Imagine if Dan crushed March and announced it on rope promotion.
Hoshoryu looking like someones middle management dad >>255297 >>255361 hes just saying thst hes happy he won this tournament as a yokozuna because the last time he won that tournament was when he was an ozeki still he might think it of it as like a confidence booster that hes still good an capable of winning.
>>255610 this says they wanted it back because they cut ties with Ajigawa, who says if there's a beef now it's unclear what it's about... which pretty much sounds like lip service or it's something personal or something, who fucking knows.
>>255615 Or just a mistranslation. Either way who cares? Dan gets to fight while sharing the ball sweat of his master and can trivially afford a new mawashi if he wanted one.
>>255617 His fanclub by now can probably afford an entire workshop to make him a new one for every day of the basho. It's just that your master's ball sweat is a great power buff
>>255620 I said it happened 118 times, not that 118 rikishi did it. 96 different rikishi have done it in the 6-basho era. 30 of them alone are still active, including Aonishiki (who's now done it twice).
>>255591 Retarded Danfag, Japan doesn't care for foreign interlopers unless they're good enough to become yokozuna like Hoshoryu is. If there's only one spot left it obviously belongs to Atamifuji, the real winner of the January Basho.
Even Chris is now openly mocking Horse's consistent ability to win meaningless exhibition tournaments while never winning any real yushos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH5wnXSHrV8
>>255662 I always mixed Daiamami and Daishoho together as they both were gutlords. Good luck for both of them in their next life. May they soar to great heights.
>>255684 I don't like the idea of making fun of rikishi injuries because any rikishi worth remembering the shikona of actually puts a lot of dedication and physical torment into what they do. If I could get hold of a Futagoyama hoodie for the sake of Nabatame and Mita's ACLs I would.
>>255711 Anti-Ukrainian sentiment predates the current war and isn't restricted to Russia supporters - if there's one thing Europeans are good at, it's hating each other. "Hohol" is as old an insult as "frog", "kraut", or "Belgian".
>>255716 Hohol, khokhol, хoхóл, cockhole, and other variants were all in use before 2022. It's just that casual racists hadn't heard of them or had any reason to insult Ukrainians before Ukraine was catapulted into the public's consciousness when the war started. Only dedicated hardcore racists and Ukraine's immediate neighbours used it commonly beforehand.
>>255716 they used it on krautchan since forever, I never look at 4chan outside of /nba/ and /sumo/ so I wouldn't know about the native situation here.
>>255724 >Former yokozuna Kisenosato praised Aonishiki's growth at Onosato's promotion reception, he said, "If Onosato doesn't improve, he'll be surpassed by Aonishiki someday." Kisenosato added that he expects the two to continue to improve together. https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/71610f01e5200acb786f668d0c2b4403e6dbd6f1 Absolutely savage of Kisenosato to cut down Onosato like that at his yokozuna promotion party.
https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202602130000905.html >綱とり Nikkan Sports is now referring to Dan as "tsunatori" as if his promotion is a foregone conclusion
>>255738 Sure but Onosato can't beat Horse, so he has substantial room for improvement and Dan's star is still rapidly on the rise so it is a safe assumption that if Onosato doesn't also improve then Dan will eventually be dominating him too.
>>255739 Onosato is 25 and extremely adaptable, there's still plenty of room for him to improve. If Dan can't beat him with only one arm it will always be hard for him
>>255751 Literally the worst ozeki tenure since WW2. It's almost impressive in its ineptitude. And it'd be even worse if covid hadn't bailed him out of July.
>>255753 You are easily the worst poster ever at the very least. Pic >>255751 isn't even Kirishima you absolute buffon. I understand you've only been watching for a year or so, but you would know that wasn't kiri if you actually cared to watch and learn about sumo instead of constant negative shitposting.
>>255774 >euros You'd be able to afford to buy a T-shirt if you weren't wasting all your money on taxes to pay for Hassan's rent, food, clothing, electricity, pocket money, car and school for his 19 children
>>255801 I see people wearing hoodies with designs on the back of old shit that looks worn out. A worn out Onosato kickflip on the back with some Japanese around it would be kino.
>>255834 Daimyo sponsored them. Since they weren't allowed to actually go to war against each other, sponsoring rikishi became one of the remaining ways to show off their prestige compared to other daimyo.
About Enho, I heard a lot of people mentioning the fact he needs one more tournament as sekitori to reach the minimum for purchasing elder stock, but is there even elder stock available for him?
>>255858 Elder stock is almost never truly available, what happens is a deal is made for one elder to retire so the retiring wrestler takes his place. But I don't think Enho would still be trying if one wasn't promised to him.
>>255858 I heard he already owns elder stock but can't take it due to not meeting the mark yet. It's probably Miyagino. God bless but man EAT YOUR FUCKING RICE
>>255900 I dont think we're getting it, koga's dropping to bottom of jonidan or even jonokuchi, meanwhile asahifuji will be at the top of jonidan. unless
koga goes zensho 6-0
>>255902 He'll probably meet Tenshoyama again in jonidan. Just don't forget about the REAL next great Mongolian hope, Bukhchuluun who went 6-1 at MS60TD.
>>255921 what's wrong with his leg? looks like he has black plague or some other disgusting disease. hideous, really disrespectful to the fans to make them look at something like that
>>255918 it was pretty hilarious, Chris's barely contained embitterment over the doubtlessly mongolian wrestlers who were mean to him at jungyo, hopefully he will eventually name them and give a more complete account of what went down
>>255981 azns eat dog, its normal everyday food for them, roga talks about eating dog in one of futaGOYama videos, but the subtitles translated it as "wolf"
Endo got angry and beat up a few sumo fans at Ryogoku Kokugikan and then was holding others hostage, but then the police showed up and Endo realized he was surrounded so he gave up peacefully and surrendered
>"Rising star" The guy is the most popular man in sumo and the reigning champion of the sport since November with one successful title defense already. He isn't a rising star, he stands atop the pinnacle of sumo, he is better than both yokozunas, there is nowhere left for him to rise to, he has already been at the top since last year.
Incredible how the danfaggot reacts to the extremely warm reception of Aonishiki by the Japanese. Good thing Aonishiki himself isn't an ungrateful moron.
>>256009 Dan has never in his entire makuuchi career once scored as low as HorseSHITryu and Onosato did in January. 10-5 is cringe even as a mægashira, as a yokozuna its a humiliation.
Someone I work with is going to Osaka sometime in March. I've already revealed my sumo powerlevel and he knows I know some Japanese. Turns out the next basho is the Osaka one. I'm gonna tell him, maybe he'll try and go while he's there. If he brought back some merch that'd be cool as fuck. A Kotozakura banner would be neat.
>>255786 Oh Roga went home? Good for him, the way he speaks about home its like a place he's never going back to. Does Roga plan on becoming a Japanese citizen or will he go back after his sumo career?
Nihonoseki Kremlin watching: Onosato is in the dog house, at a recent press conference Kisenosato chose to stand next to Shirokuma and let Shirokuma stand next to the cool and photogenic mascot while Onosato was shoved off to the side and forced in a bunch of manlets in suits that nobody cares about. Stop pulling those cringe 10-5s kid, grow a pair of hinkakus and learn to behave like a real yokozuna.
That one British guy who used to make 60% of the posts in /sumo/ got permabanned because he chimpped out and started spamming the n word and now /sumo/ is almost completely dead. If it weren't for Danposting there would be practically no posting at in this ITT
This sheds further light on the sponsorship squabble that resulted in Dan's mawashi change. Nitori is a massive sponsor, buy far the largest player in the Japanese furniture market and one of the largest globally.
>>256063 I don't care. All I care about is the excellent story of a Ukrainian war refugee going to Japan, being taken in by an adoptive family, and honouring the shit out of them by becoming fluent in six months, completely acquiescing to Japanese culture, and training himself to be the ultimate sumo machine who in the space of just a year is on the brink of a Yokozuna promotion while wearing the belt of his master.
Any sponsor who cares more about their mawashi than that story is a shithouse who Aonishiki and Ajigawa can do without. This is pure honourable sumo. Honestly the most honour sumo has seen since the Hana brothers.
