My bro got me some bonkles and is supposed to drop them off sometime this week. I’ll post results.
I just miss when we didn’t have a two week autosage and had some counters. If we had post ids or something it’d clear up a lot of the spam fast.
I’ve shared this story before but not that long ago I complained about not getting a cannon in my 3-1 ship, bitched to Lego, got a replacement from them and posted results all in the same thread that was up for almost 8 weeks. Now we can’t go 72 hours without “new thread?” And half of every thread being shill shit and bitching. This place was never good but it wasn’t ever this bad.

The turbo tank has absolutely no right being that expensive. I genuinely wonder how they came up with the price. I'm hoping it shelfwarms enough to get a 40% cut at some point. Love the Galactic Marines from Battlefront 2 so I definitely need them.
>>
>>11721643
>>11721650
Turbo Tank and MTT were way too overpriced. At least MTT was a solid build, I guess.
Turbo tank is such shit that it is apparently supposed to retire this year, like 6-12 months before the rest of the sets that released around it are supposed to retire. I imagine it'll get some heavy discounts, because I don't see them selling at all.
I still maintain that the reason the prices have increased hand over fist the last few years is that they proactively started working the cost of the smartbrick R&D into all their other sets, making everyone else pay fort it regardless of if you want it or not.

these electric $70+ bricks will totally fail as non-Star Wars sets. Lego is trying to artificially create interest by showing sales numbers.
"see? look at all these Smart Brick sets we sold! everybody loves the smart brick!"
it has nothing to do with the smart brick, and everything to do with Star Wars fans buying anything for any price. enough SW fans will pay, even without the accurate sound effects

I also like them, but the Martians were not engineered to be sturdy enough. several of mine have already busted the leg clips and even the hands have snapped
If Lego wanted to give it a modern re-do, they could use Friends bodies with new Martian-shaped heads, it would be perfect. The 2nd Lego movie already did combo Minifig/Minidoll sets before, this would be a good (better) opportunity to do it again

People in the hobby bitch and moan endlessly, but the quality and intricacy of the builds has never been better, and if you’re coming back in after years or decades away, you’re going to be surprised and impressed with the way modern sets come together. There are a lot of neat angles and forms that just weren’t done (or maybe weren’t possible) when I was a kid. If you buy Rivendell, you’re going to have a good time with it.

>>
>>11721993
I mean it depends. Some people would argue Lego is worse today because it’s prioritizing licensed sets instead of original and more creative sets. Some people prefer the older, blockier designs. Some people complain that we’re getting a lot more tiny pieces, and we’re being ripped off as a result (though price per piece and, to lesser extent, price per gram both seem to have trended steadily downwards since the 80s, and the upside of smaller pieces is more intricate detail).
There are some genuine reasons to criticize Lego, much of which boil down to personal preference. But to my mind, the builds today are far more fun and impressive than the builds of my childhood.

Of sets? Pretty great. There's newer type of blocks and building techniques everywhere.
If you're an autist like my you will however notice that individual block quality has decline compared to 10+ years ago.
That sounds completely ludicrous but I am dead serious. But at least it's not as bad as "brittle brown" or white that's more yellow than white these days.

As far as the ideology of plastic bricks building scale versions of real world things goes, this is hands down one of the greatest sets ever released.
>>
>>11722003
Is brittle brown, gold, red, etc. still a problem? I thought that was more a 90s/00s thing. Also an issue plaguing all plastics — I remember unearthing some old Beast Wars toys and having them turn to dust while transforming.

Chris was just some guy with Asperger’s and a few other things. His parents didn’t care because they didn’t understand the internet, he was a legal adult, and people gave him money. He needed safeguards and didn’t have them. It was people fucking with him on the internet because they found it funny. Naturally they got him performing satanic rituals and communicating with demon spirits to see how far it went. And the answer was it never ended. He’s still going. Lolcow sacrifice isn’t a joke. It’s very sad. Just because he’s an adult, doesn’t mean he has the mental capacity and fortitude of one.

>Does legos make too many sets?
No
Lego is under some bizarre impression that the only competition for Lego, is Lego. that's why we don't get Castle sets, because they already have Harry Potter, which is close-enough (that's sarcastic, none of us here believe that)
yet, it's clear by now, that nobody does MOCs at all. they just buy the set, build it, and display it. Lego NEEDS Castle sets, because the kids and adults are too [insert reason] to do it themselves out of Harry Potter sets.
I assume they are making sets as fast as they can. Lego could easily crush sales if they had the warehouse/factory ability to make 5 times as many sets as they do. my guess is they simply CAN'T make both Castle and Harry Potter

i think the 'self competition' issue is due to the licencers
iirc one of the reasons why bionicle g2 got abruptly axed was because disney told lego it was 'competing' with their buildable figures line
i've also heard that disney is also responsible for the drought of in house space themes that aren't city based

that seems reasonable, so it's easy to believe. I still think it's Lego's own call. they made Space Police 3 right when Clone Wars started
I also don't think it's Nintendo that forced Lego to do the brick-built Mario sets. that was Lego choosing to have "something different than just more minifigs" on the shelf, backed-up by the electronics they got away with much larger sets than they would have with minifigs.

lego had a couple space themes concurrent with star wars when it was still owned by lucas
lom, mars mission, sp3, and galaxy squad (which was developed before the buyout)
alien conquest also released in this time but it's debatable whether it's a true space theme
but galaxy squad only existed for the one year, and after that the only space sets were released under city or icons

some people remember about mould king crane i posted, that shit was malfunctioned even i overhauld. so, buy Lego one, do not even think about alternative brands like cada or mouldking or whatever crap. do not buy Cheap copy from aliexpress, that's worst

I'm just going to rant, so feel free to ignore me
Disney Pixar Cars always freaks me out. where are the people? they have people-things, like buildings and... cars, but no people? not having people made it feel like some kind of bizarre post-apocalypse world. I'm aware I might have taken it too seriously, and it's been a loooong time since I've watched it, maybe I should give it another chance. thanks for letting me vent! sorry if you like Cars, there's plenty of Cars merch, so I know I'm the oddball for not liking it, obviously.
also, nobody is going to agree with "SOUL" Lego sets, that question is basically asking "when did you grow up with Lego?"

I think it looks extremely good tbqhwy. And while I understand the desire for a unique hylian shield design for each incarnation of Link (and I feel like, for the price, a bit of extra care should be expected), I’m also wary of tipping into Star Wars whiner territory (e.g. “this set is trash because ARC Trooper Wunk didn’t get a unique print for his iconic Slightly Larger belt buckle”)

*Lego makes expensive set - screws up tiny important detail
-many such cases
I understand they did not want to print a new torso for Ro Laren in the "free" (heh) GWP set, so they re-use an already-printed Picard/Riker torso. but Dr. Crusher is the ONLY blue uniform. there's simply no reason to NOT give her the female chest lines, they did boobs on Troi. it's just an embarrassing detail to miss. Worf has a special yellow torso print! they didn't use the generic Geordi/Data torso for him. and they didn't even make Tasha Yar to give her the blank yellow torso, either. worry about the generic blue torso later, if they ever plan on making more TNG sets and needed a male-coded blue torso. Dr. Crusher is clearly a WOMAN on the show. ugh. $400!

I feel like this almost has more to do with how Lego does everything in their power to give out genderless torsos to jive with "modern sensibilities." In nearly every case they can, they will give featureless torsos, even to the detriment of the characters. They say it is in the name of making parts more ambiguous for sake of interchangeability, but it is probably more a trifecta of laziness, cost cutting, and kneeling to the mob.
They just don't give a shit. Keep in mind they have "fixed" that plaque sticker three times now, and it still isn't totally right.

Officially, yes. But whenever they were put in a set, there would be literally only 1 in the entire set. Making them not very common.

after comparing it with a coin, it might not be chrome
but it is also different from nu-gold
older bricks are on the left, newer bricks are on the right
the telescope and knife look like nu-gold, but I got them as a child while the coins were still chrome
the crystal on the right is similar to the chest and was in a nu-gold coin era set, so hope isn't completely lost for the bricks at least

you probably expect people to scream NO, ITS TOO EXPENSIVE NOW!!! but it depends on how you value money
you buy a movie ticket for $10 and get 2-3 hours of entertainment, maybe more if you discuss the movie with others.
you can buy a novel for $10 and spend 10 hours reading it. and more discussing it, too
Disney Vacation? $4000. a whole week. resort, theme park attractions, rides, tasty restaurants, that one photo with the Princess! memories to last a lifetime.
so go buy some Lego, and calculate how much you spend vs how much time you enjoy it

On a bit of an Indiana Jones kick at the moment. Rewatched the original films and played the Lego game which of course made me have another look at the Lego sets and I gotta say, I’m kinda disappointed. They’re just not very interesting. The 1930s vehicles are really good, but the sets themselves leave a lot to be desired. What’s even worse, is when they revived the series a few years ago and just remade a few of the older sets instead of making new ones like the Temple of Grail, Castle Brunwald, Venice, the map room, Pankot Palace etc. Also the new Indy minifig is such a fucking downgrade. The price they go for now is insane and I’ve never seen so many used sets for sale with missing stickers.

I mean why do you ask? If you're autistic with your hands and like small models yeah they're cool and you can get little cars or spaceships or big like painting recreations. If you're asking about like reselling uhh weird but valid I guess. I know a lego guy he doesn't work he's married with kids and quit around 2022-23 went to hang out with him in 2024 and he had a lego room. Like sets he built and stacks of kits he was waiting to retire and resell. It was kind of weird but he takes care of the house and kids while wifey works and the lego reselling funds his buying new legos to build and resell. It's kind of interesting but yeah mostly kind of interesting that it's sustainable.

>cooking girl
that Chef Girl is a complete FAIL.
-the hat is an existing piece (maybe a new color hair?) it could have at least been a new hair style under the hat
-the signature on the apron makes it useless for MOCs. (great for the one designer it's likely based on, though. good for her, to get a personal minifig released for herself.)
---better apron torsos already exist. (see pic)
-the dragon is a blank no-face. at least give it eyes. not even candy-dot eyes? booooo!
I'm more upset they wasted a figure on the Soccer dude. they are releasing a whole line of Soccer sets! this is insane! why have one fictional soccer guy? (I assume his color doesn't match a team, I don't know futbol)
so they waste a Soccer Guy, and waste a Chef Girl. those two figures are available in other sets. (and kind of the Ninja Guy, too, but that's like an anniversary inclusion, like the Bionicle guy) could Lego really not think of two other figures?

not a spoiler for the movie
totally based on comics or whatever, otherwise there would be "AVENGER: DOOMSDAY" graphics all over that box
probably an attempt to give comic fans a "comic book version" of Dr. Doom to satisfy them if "movie version" Dr. Doom is lame (to the comic fans)
>>
>>11724338
It can be comic based and still tie in with the movie. Ghost Rider is said to be part of this Advent Calendar and he's rumoured to be in the film. Spidey and Wolverine are rumoured to be the opening scene centerpiece and Doom is the big thing of the movie. Iron Man is also included and I think Cap too in this AC, so all of these characters are included for a reason.
>>
>>
>>11724254
I honestly seethe so fucking hard when I see them blatantly waste production capacity on ugly dogshit that won't even sell. Especially now that they came out and said that the entire company has a global printing capacity that gets spread amongst all the sets currently in production. Like imagine being a Star Wars fag knowing you're accepting stickers so some FIFA or F1 trash meant for Kuwaiti teenagers can have printed parts that will sit in a clearance bin.

a year ago Lego did a massive F1 racecar thing, that's another sport I don't watch or care about, at all.

no shield? I can add one but surprised. Otherwise meets my high expectations
>green dress elf
I like it overall, but I’m disappointed in this one. I was expecting to love it Hate the metallic gold hair and was excited for elf ears in yellow. Which Lego has the molds for. In flesh tone. Very frustrating. Unicorn is also metallic gold mane.the dress looks nice though

Apparently it was Lord and Miller who begged Lego to make a Project Hail Mary tie in set:
https://www.brickfanatics.com/lord-and-miller-told-lego-project-hail-m ary/
>“They don’t normally do things that are not based on already successful franchises,” Miller told io9. “Like a one-off movie like this, that’s its own thing. But we told them to trust us. And we said, ‘Come to the set and see what it is and how special it is.’” In their corner already was, of course, Lord and Miller’s existing LEGO pedigree: they helmed The LEGO Movie and produced The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. And they told io9 that their relationship with the LEGO Group ‘helped a lot’ in driving 11389 Project Hail Mary forward, as the company finally accepted one of ‘a million invitations’ to visit the set of the movie in London.“Then we secretly cut a whole 10-minute piece to show them, and it blew them away,” Lord said. “They understood how special the movie was and how LEGO fans were going to respond to it.”
>“And they found a way to make a very cool set,” Miller added.“We had the opportunity and the pleasure to talk to them on a couple of occasions on online meetings,” said the set’s designer Nathan Heigert. “I was a fan of theirs from going way back to their show, Clone High, so if you ask me, they can do no wrong. It was really nice to be able to talk to them and glean some of their guidance about the model, about the story, and how to make the most of it for the model.”

Adventurers died with the Dino Island theme. It was just garbage. The color scheme was so drab and the architecture and style was likely weren't even trying. There wasn't even a hope for the reboot after that. They totally ran out of ideas.
>>
>>
>>11724644
Cool idea. Execution was lacking. I’d argue though that as a kid at the time this was a great subtheme. Yeah it wasn’t Maya or Egypt or Nepal but it was fun. I liked all the Dinos and loved the Stego. The sets were dino island were ugly with ugly colors compared to other iterations of adventurers but very playable. But yeah I’d prefer Egypt or orient expedition. Those sets aged very well
>>
>>11724644
>architecture was like they weren’t even trying
Isn’t there only one set with any sort of building, and that’s a dilapidated research compound? Everything else is vehicles and little builds of scenery and so forth. The vehicles were pretty cool
>>
>>
>>11724654
>>11724653
I agree. The general idea was good, but the execution was poor. Just look at that drab color scheme and the way that they constructed the buildings and the play mechanics Like who cares if a radar dish pops out of a roof. That's not really fun. That doesn't appeal to people.

>>
>>
>>
>>11724644
the issue with dino island is that it was trying to ride the wave of jp2 and jp3 instead of being it's own thing based on late victorian era interests like egypt and the amazon
if it were based on late 1800/ early 1900 dinosaur media then it could've been a lot better
